Default Stupid Question for Canidians

If I we're an American Citizen and I was visiting Canada and I had a medical emeregency and had to seek care who would pay the medical bills? Would they bill me in America? Hypathetical of course

I really have no idea but I'm assuming it would depend on the situation. If you were hurt and unconscious then I'm sure they would treat you and worry about money later. If you walked into an emergency ward they would prolly refuse to service you without some type of medical insurance.

I'd check into it a bit more if I were you. Having your child here doesn't necessarily mean it's gonna be free or even cheap for that matter. Something tells me that if it were that easy, we'd have a lot of US citizens coming here to give birth.

Obviously not, you want to have your child in Canada and can't even spell Canadians.

i dont think canada is cheaper unless you are a resident, they pay high taxes for thei health care system. If you want a cheap birth goto asia or africa, then again that might be a bad idea

Good point da, we do pay high taxes to help offset some of our medicare expenses. It doesn't help that we only have 1/10 the members that the US does.

I can answer that question as I've been in many hospitals with my kids and seen the signs up.

If you were to come to Canada to have your baby, you'd still need to pay the bill. They might treat you if it was a dire emergency or if you were at a border town, they'd probably call the states side to come get you and you'd be treated there if you couldn't pay up front or have insurance.

Every province is different as far as coverage goes as well. In Ontario, where I live, we pay for nothing. We do have an excellent health care system. Visits to the doctors, surgeries, emergency services are all free of charge. We do have to pay for prescriptions or cosmetic surgery.

This is why I wouldn't live in the states as beautiful as the states is. The health care sucks there. you have to pay for every visit to the doctors. that could be extremely costly! I can't believe the price you have to pay to have a child! holy cow!!! My births were all free. Happy to be a canadian!

The raw tax rate in canada is higher i think, so you pay for it there not as required. So if you are sick, or pregnant, canada is better, but if you are healthy then the states are better because we pay less taxes.

i guess, but its not all that expensive. This past year i paid(well my parents paid) on their insurance, $100 for my doctors and dentist appointments. That is a lot less then the tax difference.
