Room Clutter
Which room is the messiest one in your home? What kinds of things do you have in there now that you can get rid of but keep for either you'll need it someday, or because there is emotional attachment?

Re: Room Clutter
My spare bedroom. That's where everything goes when I don't know where to put it yet.

Re: Room Clutter
My bedroom for sure, it's not even a question. My whole house is spotless due to my slightly obsessive fiance. Our bedroom is where the extra crap lands.

Re: Room Clutter
Right now, the messiest room is the rec room-library. Many years ago, we had it lined with bookshelves. For a period, it was bunny central (a bunch of foster bunnies and then two of my beloved bunbuns lived there). Now, I'm in the process of cleaning it up, sorting, and shelving 70+ boxes of books.
What a mess. What a bloody bloody mess. I can never move. The prospect of packing and moving these books horrifies me - and I keep buying more.

Re: Room Clutter
I have a TON of books, too, Boe, and I swore I wouldn't buy any more, then someone suggests one that I MUST read and I buy it. I've been fortunate enough to have books lent to me, but STILL....
We plan on retiring sooner than expected, God willing, and the things I regret packing are ALL the books. We are going to downsize even more, so I don't know where I will be able to put them. I'm going to find a way to give a lot of them away, but I'm sure when the time comes and I have to sort them out, it will be hard because of sentimental attachment.

Re: Room Clutter
I've already sorted out 9 boxes to donate to our local Friends of the Library bookstore. Even with that, I don't have enough room.
I read once that the average home in America has something like only 5 books - which means that there are a whole bunch with none given how many we have.

Re: Room Clutter
My basement got water in it, yet again. Not a lot, just enough in some parts to make little splash sounds when you walk on it. But a little seems to go a long way, especially when it is full of my in law's old crap, all this useless plywood, and cardboard boxes that seem absorb it like it is getting sucked up a straw, etc. Two twin bed sets where the mattress and box springs were propped up against a wall are probabaly a total loss.
And of course some of the water also got under the rug on the finished side, too. Not sure if that's a total loss, but we'll see. I may just leave it, since it is damp not drenched. I already run a dehumidifier 24/7 down there.
Spent most of today shopvaccing out water, what fun.

That's a tough pill to swallow, Patrick, I'm sorry!

What is especially bleeped up is that I had gutter work done. Where we had gotten leaks I had them reset the gutters, in two places, and, of course no water came in there. I just had them clean the rest, and put gutter guards on...which is the side the water seemed to be coming in from.
I think I also need a longer drain pipe on one side, at the bottom of the downspout. There was a long one there, but it kept falling off. I got one of those Home Cheapo extendo things, but it is only about three feet long...And I think that's the place where most of the water came in from, Might be as simple a fix as that. Still sucks, though. And it seems to be hard to pinpoint exactly.

You win. That is a bigger mess than anything to which one would ever aspire.
Good luck with the clean up, sweetie.

Re: Room Clutter
Sorry to hear that Patrick. Plumbing issues can be an enormous hassle to deal with.
Hopefully the rug can be saved.

It isn't a plumbing issue, fortunately. More like a drainage, gutter or foundation issue. And there's a distinct possibility it is even a simple fix, which admittedly won't help with the clean up.
Though I am starting to get sick of the "stuck in the 70s" fixtures in two of the bathrooms.

We'll see. It is candidly a bit squishy over about a 5' x 5' area.
