Default Picking your battles

I was talking today to a friend of mine who's thinking of going back home to Peru after 5 years of staying in France because it's too taugh for him. Truth being told, he had a more research prone profile and the scholarships are very scarce even for French people. He seems to have abandonned all hope and just won't seriously start looking for a job.

He's dore it his way, decided it's impossible and all he does is talk down about the French system - which is indeed kinda ****ty...

He made me wonder. Doubt.

So when is it when you've said "it's enough"? Which areas?

Professionally, I'm a survivour. However, on a personal note, I give up on my friends too easily. That's my biggest sin. I don't trust enough and I don't give enough. I give up on myself too quickly too.

I know it's a silly thing to say, but this type of choce mark our life forever, as it is the case of my Peruvian friend. I hope I don't end up alone.

You won't end up alone. But with a different man than you imagine at the current moment perhaps.

It is true that decisions like that mark our lifes. But they are also a reflection of who we are, and what we deem important. Some of us, take the leap of faith easier than others.

This decision your Peruvian friend made, may well be the best decision he could make. How could he perform well in a job, if his heart is not in it?

As for giving up on friends too easily, that is something that can be overcome, by ... trusting and keeping your eyes open.

Watching a friend make a decision you think is screwed up....is the same thing parents go through when trying to guide their kids.

I think it comes down to this though....it may NOT be the wrong decision for the person who made it for themselves. They know what they are willing to persue, what their priorities are and what their character is. Maybe being a great friend or parent...is letting them make their own choices and just supporting the choice....even if it wouldn't have been the right choice for us personally.

I think Vautrin pretty much said the same thing.

Yes, especially if there is not a legal limitation for the kids to consider. You can argue indefinitely about moral limitations.

A decision that may be the right one for me, does not necessarily have to be the right decision for another person. Whatever decision I will be making in the future, I may not consider myself an abstract person. But I must consider myself as a person, with specific preferences, ideals, et cetera. If you consider yourself an abstract person, you would be doing what you ought to do; and we all know that it can lead to disastrous consequences.
