In Tasmania it is still illegal for a man to go out after sundown dressed as a woman. Because men used to lure women, while dressed as women. Apparently.
SO cross dressers beware!!

And the other way around?
There are some intriguing stories of women dressing up like men in order to serve in various male dominated areas, such as the military (prior to reforms allowing women to serve).

From what I read, most of the women that pretended to be men in the Military was so they could be with their husbands. Although, quite a few women did some amazing things during that time, but if they were caught - they got sent home. Their husbands were sometimes discharged for their wives doing this, depending on how many soldiers they had able to fight. Not all the women wanted to fight. They were just surviving the war.
A lot of it had to do with being scared of STDs. There weren't many cures back then. They didn't want their men bringing it home to them or vice-versa. It is also one other reason why marriage lasted a lot longer back then. It was for survival.
