On the other side of the world.....
I found it funny....especially the last line.
IRANIAN GOVERNMENT CRACKS DOWN ON BILLIARD PARLORS
A recent edict from the Public Establishments Office (Edareh-yi Amaken Omumi), which deals with issues such as listening to music and lewd behavior, regulates the time billiard parlors in Tehran can stay open, Radio Farda reported on 10 January. Billiard parlors must close by 11 in the first six months of the year (March-September) and by 10 in the last six months of the year (October-March).
Moreover, no new pool halls will be licensed. Physical Education Organization official Hassan Mirza Aqabeig told Radio Farda there are 450 licensed billiard parlors in Tehran. He added that no family wants its children shooting pool until 2:30 a.m. Reza Haidari, a young man who occasionally hangs out in billiard parlors, told Radio Farda that young people go to these places to relax and have fun. He said he has heard of places where boys and girls played billiards together, ( but he never went to one himself ).

I guess they don't want them licensed because a lot of young people go to billiard halls these days, or at least there seems to be a lot of them around here.

My point is that I found it interesting, if not funny, that in certain parts of the world males and females cannot shoot pool together...as per law.

I remember a friend of mine telling me that women weren't allowed in some of the same bars as men either. I think he was referrring to parts of Australia but I can't really remember.

Isn't it strange how some parts of the world aren't as advance socially as we are? Women are still beneath the men and are restricted to their "womanly duties" only.
I couldn't live in a place like that. They would stone me! All joking aside though, it must be hard for women in those places. I couldn't go back to the way it used to be for us centuries ago where we were only heard when spoken to and barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen. What a life that must be.

I was surprised when watching a newscast last night interviewing one of our female Senators who has been in Iraq meeting with the women there who are running for various offices. One out of Three candidates are female. She said they were highly educated, many within the US, who were dedicated....even at the risk of their own lives...to give back to their country.
Now THAT takes a lot of guts!
