I once had to reformat both of my drives and re-install my OS 6 times over the course of one weekend. A virus had infiltrated my core archives files and would execute from some hidden file that surfaced when copying to my hard disk. Weird and really annoying.

I can't see why that would create a problem unless there was a power surge or something.

I know what you mean. Whenever I reboot my hyperdrive the flexus crashes and then the vavavoom explodes. I think mabe a succubus has infiltrated the noonah. Strange but true.

I'm not going to bring into question your superior expertise on building computers. I did own an AMD and as a gamer it was junk. The only thing it had going for it was that you could overclock it much more that you could an intel but it was very unstable. I now have a P4 and would never buy anything else. Of course that may only be the case until I purchase a 64 bit rig in the next year or two and it's anyones guess as to who will be on top then. BTW, there is no major performance differences if comparing apples to apples (which you can never do).
Both platforms are structured differently and as such perform differently give certain apps. AMD will always have performance gains over Intel and vice versa. It is an eternal power struggle that will never go away and is extremely similar to the benchmark testing we see between ATI and Nvidia.
I've owned both and for my money, Intel is the winner.

amd chips are 10-30% faster on games, considering that they are the only company with 64 bit consumer chips right now, they have an advantage, how long ago did you own an amd? they used to not be as good, but now, there is very little holding up intel.
