Default The Media

Am I the only one who thinks the media publishes just too much about people's lives these days? I may be off my rocker, but anytime I open a newspaper, turn on the TV, or listen to the radio, most of the news I hear seems to focus on the worst traits of humanity. I simply can't remember it being that bad when I was a kid but maybe it was and I didn't pay attention to it.

Not really sure.

I think it was always that bad and we didn't notice it much when we were kids because we were too busy playing outside or with our toys. I know as a kid, i didn't pay attention to the news. Whenever my parents watched it, i went outside to play. I found it very boring. My kids are the same way. they never were interested in watching the news.

We just pay more attention to it now that we're "grown ups".

I think there was a time when people swept more family problems or abuse under the rug. I guess people pretended it didn't exist or there was no outside intervention to stop it.

Unfortunately now it's everywhere and I don't think there's been any drop in the statistics, more like a boom. It just seems like an over abundance of negativity floating around for all to see these days which is why I try and avoid the news and papers as much as possible.

I don't watch the news either unless it's a story that I don't want to miss whihc doesn't happen too often. I don't get the paper delivered here anymore. I did and it went from my mailbox right to the recycling box without even being gazed at. Once in awhile I'll go check the paper online but that isn't too often either.

I figure that we have enough negativity in our lives that we don't need to add to it by watching the news every night. Hubby's the same way although he's on the road more then i am so he hears it on the radio.

People haven't changed and keep committing the same sins as their ancestors...improvements in technology has simply allowed it all to be broadcast to the world. Behave yourself or your Grandma in Italy will know within hours.

I guess my beef is that does it have to have so much attention in the media and if so, why can't we hear more reports on happy endings? It just seems way too imbalanced to me.

It goes back to what DA said....no one reads the fluffy stuff. When is the last time you bought a newspaper to read the marriages, births or who bought property/houses? No one purchases a newspaper to read those sections. No one cares.

I've never bought a newspaper to read the death either. I'd rather be blissfully unaware sometimes rather than educated and miserable.
