Default It's tidier than last year dance

I'll share my most embarassing holiday moment with you as it's kept my friends here amused!

I had a lot on in the run up to the hols, I ended up with 3 epic days, one for present shopping, one for food shopping and one for getting the house ready. I'm not houseproud, the place is usually messy. With all the things I've had on, it was worse then usual. My mother in law was coming to stay, I put the kids in nursery and spent a whole day cleaning, tidying and decorating. 6 hours non stop. Yuk!

As I arrived back home with the kids, my mother in law had just arrived too so we all came in together. My oldest child started doing an "It's tidier than last year song and dance about the house" :?

So not only was my mother of the year cover blown, but she also managed to imply that tidying up was an annual event!

Hey at least tidying up once a year is better than never tidying up at all. Since you cleaned for your guests then they should take pride in the knowledge that their worth tidying up for.

That would be the daughter YOU have which is like me. I have a daughter who is much more like you! When she was younger I asked her why she didn't put her things away in her room where they belonged. She replied "Because they are MINE and I like looking at them!". Therefore, storage areas are at a loss....she likes her stuff laying out.

There could be wisdom in that....and you can use the same train of thought in a pinch.

I love that about kids, they speak their minds without fully understanding the bigger picture.

Wait until they are around someone you are dating and hear what they come up with.....which is why I avoid it.

I hadn't thought of that but yes, I can imagine that could be tricky

I'm sure that most partners would understand thats just kids being kids. I'm not too worried about what my daughter might say about me when a girlfriend is around but then she doesn't have too much dirt on me.

My kids are 4 and 6, duke. You hould hear some of the stuff they come out with. They also get very attached to people quite quickly (I wonder where they got that from? )

Merika's right, it's best avoided.

An ex of mine too had kids but hers were a bit older, the youngest being 7 and the oldest being 13, all girls. Some of the stuff that came from their mouths was incredible but they were all good, yet very confused, girls. Seems mom always had a different guy around and it was really messing up the girls. I felt bad leaving the situation but I became a victim of moms habits. We started off as friends but became a bit more (no intercourse though) due to uncertainty in her traffic patterns.

We didn't last so I did my typical man show and left the entire situation behind. I just heard in the news that her middle daughter (my favorite) had run away and they were looking for her. She finally ended up coming back home but I can't stop thinking of them. I wish I could go back into the situation but I know I'll be more of a dad than she is a mom.

I know we've had posts regarding this previously....but I feel if kids see you dating....there is no problem with that. Kids think it's great fun. However....NEVER bring them home for the 'diddling' (as Star puts it...which is now my new favorite word!).

I also think if a person has a tendency to have lots of longer based relationships....they should be careful how much of that they integrate into their actual family experience. I think it is very hard for kids to feel the 'break up' and you know they must when they like someone and then they are gone. After awhile it would have to feel a kid feeling rejected.

I rarely date anyone more than 3 times, if that, so my kids think dating is a sport....and could care less if they see him again or not. LOL! Maybe I've even avoided getting invloved with someone because I don't want them to get hurt. Not sure.

It's a way of avoiding getting hurt, that's true.

One of the reasons I've never had to date was because I always lived in mixed households with friends. There were gorgeous men on the doorstep all the time, literally. LOL

Those were the happiest years of my life, I'd do it again if the lifestyle was not totally unsuitable for the kids. I have a pact with several friends that as soon as the kids leave or they are on their own, we'll give communal living a go again and grow old disgracefully.

I don't introduce my daughter to any of my girlfriends unless we've dated plenty and it looks like the relationship has a strong likelihood of continuing on indefinitely.
