Yes, I'm not happy unless I'm crying joyous tears...like yesterday when I wrote from my heart a tribute to my wonderful Son...

That would probably a state you'd call melancholia?

I didn't know that. I thought melancholia was when you felt nothing at all. Not when you were torn between two strong emotions.

You are certainly not wrong Merika. Let me clarify:

The term melancholia originated from the Greek, and originally served for psychological personality description. Choleric, phlegmatic, sanguine, and melancholic were these 4 different temperaments.

Since then it has had a few different meanings - often though the positive aspects of the personality description disappeared in our languages. Which in turn creates confusion as to what you mean when you use the term :?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melancholia , which explains a bit on the whole controversy on what melancholia is.

I understand. It's how I would feel if:

I was sad that I might get caught and sent to prison...but I'm happy because my ex-husband is dead in my trunk.

HAHA....just the thought actually makes me more giddy than melancholy. Bad example.
