Default Confronting Self Pity

For the record, this is not an article on how to conquer self-pity since the only person who can conquer self-pity is one self. Of course, the only way you can truly conquer self-pity is to confront it and deal with the issues responsible...

Default Re: Confronting Self Pity

I wrote this article in response to the way I was feeling over a prolonged period of time. Things were not going my way so I found it rather easy to start pitying myself rather than take control.

I also find that self-pity is something that sneaks up on me from time to time and a part of me wonders if it's possible for self-pity to be a recurring issue that may affect a percentage of the population. Another thought I had is maybe I'm expecting too much and when I can't easily reach a set goal, I slip into this pattern based off convenience or laziness.

Thoughts?

I do think that prolonged self-pity can take control and become a way of life...I think it's wise when a person realizes that's what is happening and takes control of his/her life and try to change it...

I too find self pity creeping up on me more and more these days. I guess I don't know how to deal with it. I hope I learn soon.

I find keeping a Gratitude Journal helps tremendously! As I write for a half hour every morning, I have found that just putting a problem on paper, trying to work it out, and then mentioning what I'm grateful for, like the birds singing outside my window as I wrote this morning....it felt like they were singing for me and I was SO grateful....

As one practises with Gratitude, one can find myriads of things to be grateful for....
