Your Job Is Terminated!
If your Boss called you in his/her office right now and told you, out of the blue, your job is terminated; how would you react? Since it's happening more and more it seems, it's something to think about. Do you have a Plan B in mind?

Re: Your Job Is Terminated!
I've never been sacked but i've been made redundent once. I'd probably do what I did last time and try to get as much money out of them as possible cause I don't have a plan B!

Re: Your Job Is Terminated!
I would be upset and probably cry. I have no plan B right now.

I've lost jobs and gotten new jobs at least 10 times in the past 20 years, and its never much fun to lose a job. But I've NEVER, EVER, just had an "out of the blue" experience. Frankly I think the scenaro is somewhat rare.
People are usually either asking to be fired, and in the process choose to ignore the warning signs and refuse to make a "Plan B," or they heed warning signs.
The best advice I can give is to be very good friends with your boss, and if you cannot do this, then find another job BEFORE your job is terminated.

Actually, it's happening a lot here in BC in the lumber industry. Twenty-five years or so ago, my husband and a LOT of mill workers were told in the morning that it would be their last shift. We weren't prepared, same as most of the people that were working there. Many homes were lost, marriages broke up...devastating stuff. That's why I asked the question...Plan B may save a LOT of heartache!
Since my husband and I live very modestly and our marriage, after years of ups and downs, was solid at the time, still is, I'm SOOO grateful to add; we just worked TO-gether on a solution. I was a stay-at-home Mom who decided to get a job and have been working ever since. My husband got another job as well, and we STILL live modestly.

Certainly, in any case, a contingency plan is a good idea. Living modestly is also a good idea.
I'm just saying that I believe employers are becomming less inhumane: Rather than surprising thousands of people with layoff, they are planning downsizing so that the catastrophic results of sudden massive change are not as damaging.

Re: Your Job Is Terminated!
I just think employers are not interested in strike action, bad publicity, and such. Better to come up with a plan, than get all that stuff happening to you.

Re: Your Job Is Terminated!
I went thorugh it,I was terminated at brake/muffler shop 5 years ago.I later found out it was discrimination because I am a woman.I did see a lawyer knowing it was discrimination and took the guy to court.I did get $60,000.00 out of it,out of court settlement with my lawyer getting $5,500.00 out of it for court and lawyer fees. The guy whom did this to me is out of buisness now,his ex wife got it though the divorce which she divorced him and she sold it.Luckily where iwork at,discrimination is prohibited
