Job Hunting: Holidays a great time to look

An article by Elisa Henricks in the 'Province' states:

Many career changers and job seekers put off their searches until the New Year because of thoughts that November and December are a bad time for job hunting.
But the holiday season is in fact a great time for job seekers--if only for the reason that other job seekers take a break and leave the field wide open.
Hiring demands don't slacken over the holiday season and employers are still looking for the right people with the right skills. This becomes a great time to be the person there with a resume in hand.
In the retail and hospitality sector even more people are needed to staff the Christmas rush--so it's prime time to get at least temporary work which may also turn into a full-time opportunity.
In some sectors, employers have end-of-year budgets to spend or projects that need completion before Dec. 31st, or gearing up for projects starting in the New Year and are scrambling to find the right people.
A surprising number of people quit their jobs in early December the mindset being that if they are going to leave anyway, might as well leave to have plenty of time off for Christmas.
Quote: "It really is a myth that November and December are a bad time for job-hunting. In a number of ways, the opposite is true. The pavement may get a little icy, but it's still worth pounding".

I totally agree. In addition to that....many people are expecting tax refunds in late Jan/early Feb and figure out they can quit their job, enjoy the holidays without having to work while the kids are out of school....and make it till Spring financially. I've done that before.

I'm wondering how I'm going to do for taxes this year. I spent the better part of it working in the states under the table so nothing was reported. I've made about $800 legally here in Canada this year hehe.

You only have to count what you worked OVER the table. I don't know what the Canadian version of W-2's are.....but the rest doesn't matter.
