Subway
I am seriously considering getting a job at Subway.
I am 13 years old, do you think that's too young to start working?
Minimum wage for me would $8.50 an hour, and I find that for often the not I will be out and I will see a new shampoo and conditioner, facial mask, cute shirt or a tote that would match everything in my entire wardrobe that I just HAVE to buy.
But I can't possibly have money to do things if i don't earn it. I have been babysitting for about two years and get paid anywhere between 6-8 dollars an hour, and I have done some volunteer work that I get paid for. But I don't babysit every week I don't have a solid income and a check at the end of every month.
My mum says that I should enjoy my freedom, but i still really want a job.

Re: Subway
I just hope you don't have to work on the weekends when we're supposed to see each other

Re: Subway
I know that would suck Of course I would only get a part time job 2 or 3 times a week and hopefully i won't have to give up my weekends.

Re: Subway
I wouldn't count on it Dwoing; at 13 there going to want you working hours where there is others on shift just in case something happens. That means you can only work days and maybe early evenings so I'd guess weekend work will be a big part of that formula.

Re: Subway
Yes, weekends are probably most of what you get. .

Re: Subway
Dwoing, I do SO admire that you want to get a job and make your own money. A few hours after school would probably be ideal for you! I don't know how Subway works, but I would think you might have to work weekends, especially when you start and until you 'pay your dues' so to speak. It would be a good idea to find the ins and outs of how they work before you take on the job.

Re: Subway
If you really want a job, I think you should get one. But... be smart about it: why chose Subway? Go and try to get a job as a shop assistant - if you love shopping, at least gain some experience in that area. Or something that would require your gaining some skills of some sort - like tutoring somebody, etc.
I think however you are a little too young. In Romania, you need to be at least 15 or 16 to have the right to work...

Re: Subway
I think 13 is too young in the US too without special permission and very limited hours. Twinkle's idea about the type of job is a good one because you could get discounts on those things they sell but again in the US you would have to be much older to work in those kind of places. Good luck in whatever you choose. But I am with your mom on this one. Enjoy your teen years while you can. You will have the rest of your life to work. You are only a teen once.

Re: Subway
It depends on you as a person, even though you're still young & your opinions about certain things will drastically change over the next few years. I would say no, take your mom's advice and enjoy your freedom!! you're only young once, and once you start, it doesnt end till you old & gray, & you usually end up wishing you could have every day off, just keep that in mind! some people on the other hand are very hard workers and arent happy unless they are keeping themselves busy, so if you really feel you need to, go for it. But live it up for as long as you can first! you still have your parents that i'm sure will bend over backwards to provide for you the things you need.
