Possible Transfer

I've mentioned about getting transferred to Foreign Exchange quite a few times before. Well, I fired off an email to Derick (the VP of FX) yesterday and I got a response today, he wanted to know what I did previous to Olympia and I let him know. So, apparetly I have all the qualifications and the background he is looking for which is awesome. He told me he definately wants me on his team, but he has to run it by Randy (the executive VP of the whole company) first which he will do next week.

I talked to my immediate manager, Gail, today about what I wanted to do, and she gave me the speech about how it's against policy to transfer people before their one year mark (I've been there 8 months). Funny enough when I asked her about it a couple months ago she said I could probably do it right around this time. Strange how her views change when it's almost a done deal and she's about to lose her best employee LOL.

Anyways, I just got off the phone with Rachel (also Randy's daughter) and she let me in on a little secret. Derek already started talking with Randy about it today and really wants me over there. Randy's leaning towards letting me go and Rachel has done nothing but try and convince him to let me go too. Hopefully it all works out and I'll find out next week for sure.

I'm cool with staying where I am at for the next month because I realize I will need to train someone to replace me, and what I do is pretty hard and technical.

I'm going to be really pissed, if I don't get the transfer though as it will be a case of the best workers never go anywhere because they are too valuable to lose and the crappy ones get to move up. That seems to be the feelings of everyone that knows what is going on too I really don't mean to sound like I am full of myself, but it is probably coming off that way - truth of the matter is that I AM the best they have right now, they are going to be screwed if I leave and my coworkers know it too. I mean, they are really happy about the opportunity I have, but are dreading me leaving.

A little about the position I am gunning for; It's called a currency trader and what it entails is a ton of cold calling in the beginning (which i despise, but realize it is necessary) to build your client base. The clients are all companies which deal with global products / services. In order to pay for the products they buy, they need to change currencies. Now, instead of going to a bank and getting hosed on exchange rates, we will give them a better rate and make a comission off of it (on top of a fairly decent base salary). Because we are a trust company, we are required by law to carry a rather substantial floating capital (I believe we have roughly $8,000,000) so there is no risk when using us instead of the other smaller firms that solely deal with currency. In talking with other traders, it's pretty damn easy to build your client base. On friday's they play poker and drink (during the day no less!!!!).

That is the gist of it. With any luck I will get the position, pay off all my debt, buy a house and a new car this year. I know Craig just landed the golden goose (is that the term?) of all clients recently - it's a aircraft parts manufacturer based out of Winnipeg, Manitoba - And just bought a new truck because of it. Nicely done.

I guess you can all pretty much tell that my main priority in life is money, and I'm really not ashamed to say that. It would be different if I had a family of my own, but I don't. Right now I'm 25 (26 in feb) and really have nothing to tie me down, so until I do, I'm going to make the best of this cause you never know when the ride will end.

DAMNIT! Yeah, there we go. I have to wait another friggin 4 months before I can apply again cause I haven't been there a year yet - which is friggin crap because I know of 5 people who have switched departments before their one year. what a f$^&ing piss off and i'm ready to knock someone's block off.

This has probably been one of the worst weeks i have had in a long time. Arg...whatever atleast I am going to see a wicked DJ tonight with some very lovely ladies. That'll take my mind off all this crap going on right now.
