Job Posting e-mail query.
As many of you know I'm less than satisfied with my current employment situation. I've been keeping my eyes open for some time now and have found a job with a company I'm interested in.
The job posting can be found here: http://www.corix.com/employment/docu...atorSurrey.pdf
Quite honestly, after 20 years of working for the same company I'm terrified at the prospect of starting new somewhere else even though I know I have to move on.
One of the problems I have with the above job posting is I do not possess a business related degree or diploma and I'm hoping this is not a deal breaker. Of course since I don't know I'd like to send a query to their employment contact as follows:

Re: Employment Opportunities: Competition #12B-463
Good morning,
I’m interested in applying for the position of Web Content Coordinator at the Surrey BC Branch of Corix.
I had a question in regards to this job posting prior to submitting a formal application however; is it mandatory to possess a business related degree or diploma? While I feel I possess a number of qualifications listed on your website this is one qualification I do not have.
My apologies if the answer to my query is obvious; I’d be remiss if I did not mention I’m somewhat rusty at applying for new employment as I’ve been with the same company for over 20 years.
Kind Regards,
Ken Lindberg

Do you think I should send the e-mail query or just bite the bullet, apply for the job and see what happens?
Thanks.

Re: Job Posting e-mail query.
What do you do at your current job? I should probably know this by now, but please enlighten me.
Anyways, if the experience is somewhat relavent then it doesn't really matter if you have that piece of paper or not. Experience will generally trump the diploma / degree. Now if you don't have the experience, I'm afraid you're SOL - but it's not looking like that.
I would send it anyways, it gives the hiring manager an idea about who you are, that you are generally interested about the position and he already knows your name when you send in your resume.

Re: Job Posting e-mail query.
I actually work in a completely different field. I've done pretty much everything at one point or another in my current job including Customer Service, Outside Sales, Department Supervisor, Printing (Screenprinting, Small to Large Format Digital Printing), Cutting (Guillotine/Plotter), and Doming.
As for the experience in internet/intranet; most of it is self taught. I did take a business writing course but that was a long time ago and it was only a few seminars really.

I would send the e-mail query because I think it's a fresh approach and you aren't wasting your or their time applying, having an interview, and being disappointed if they did need more qualifications.

Re: Job Posting e-mail query.
no! dont!
bite the bullet and when and if they ask you during the interview they could also take into account your 20 years experience, never ever jump the gun when it comes to a job Duke.

Re: Job Posting e-mail query.
It's how I got my first job WN; I actually stated I had crutches and may have to sit and rest until such time as I could walk again.
Funny thing is I was applying for a restaurant job and they hired me by mail without ever seeing me. The reason they liked me so much was due to my honesty.

Re: Job Posting e-mail query.
You can never really tell what is required when job seeking, at least not here. I've had numerous interviews at other companies and been hired on the spot with the least qualifications of the lot. The reason apparently is honesty and how obvious it is that I'm that kind of person.
There is no question I'm afraid of, no boss I'm intimidated by, no situation I can't create an answer for; hence the reason I'm comfortable in the interview I suppose.

Re: Job Posting e-mail query.
On our News Hour last week they interviewed Business Owners of Huge Companies for the weeks' segment, and all of them said they value 'Honesty' as one of the top characteristics they were looking for in an employee. Another one was showing up on time.

Re: Job Posting e-mail query.
Well I recieved a rather quick response today as follows:
Hi Ken,
Thanks for your email. I would apply to the position if it interests you even though you may not have 100% of the qualifications that it outlines.
