Re: Job Posting e-mail query.
Sometimes when bigger companies put out ad's they get several responses. Normally they wait until they all come in and then sift through to pull out the ones they would like to interview. So you should check and see if the ad's still running, if it is i would suggest to hold your horses, you don't want to catch a harassment charge trying to get a job! If the ad is not running, i would surely send over another email just stating you inquiries on if the position is still up for being filled as well as again adding your seriousness and excitement. Keep it short and sweet. Go over to the place in person if you can.
Good Luck Duke!

Re: Job Posting e-mail query.
Thanks for the feedback bb
I actually did double check to see if the posting was still there prior to sending off another resume and cover letter. I figure it's been one week (almost) since I heard anything so it couldn't hurt to reaffirm my interests in the position.

Re: Job Posting e-mail query.
i dont think a week is really that long, my roommate just got a job and he waited about three weeks from submiting his resume to them contacting him

You may want to reconsider: being too eager is not good either (it may be interpreted in negative ways). A week is not that long.
BB nailed it.

Re: Job Posting e-mail query.
How is being eager a negative? Honestly, if an employer doesn't want me because I'm enthusiastic then that's a company I don't want to work for in the first place. I don't know how it is on your side of the pond but over here in Canada we seem to have more than our share of bodies that show up to work but do little to nothing to actually help move the company forward. I am not one of these people; even though I hate my current job I do the best job I can because ethic should never be compromised regardless of work situation.
You also have to consider that my employment inquiry e-mail was answered less than 24 hours after submission. This is a far cry for 24 hours hence the reason I'm not willing to stand on my heels; I'm in to play the game not to sit back and watch it be played.
The other thing is that if I were not to get the position I'd always wonder if I did enough to clearly demonstrate both my desire and enthusiasm to get it. At least this way I'll know I did whatever I could to clearly demonstrate my interests but simply wasn't the right candidate.

Re: Job Posting e-mail query.
If you come across as utterly desperate (too eager) then you are out of the running. If you come across as highly insecure (by pestering them constantly) you are out of the running. Both are signs of potential problems, so employers probably will be a bit wary.

Re: Job Posting e-mail query.
Well I made sure to mention that I'm currently employed and working at a company I've been with for 20 years so I think that should alleviate the appearance of desperation.
I've yet to run into a potential employer who frowns on enthusiasm when applying for work. I could see it being construed as pestering if I were to re-apply daily but once/week shouldn't be too bad.

Re: Job Posting e-mail query.
Duke i can clearly understand your point of view and i understand where you are coming from. V is speaking the truth. Most of my jobs have been in management, i got an eye for hiring people and i guess i'm not to bad at firing them either. Anywho i'm speaking from someone who knows what to look for. It's all about some confidence baby! Really it is and like V said they may get the suspicion of insecurity, not saying that you are just saying what they may or may not interpret. Being eager and excited is a good thing but coming off to strong and pushy is not. If they feel that you are a quality employee that they are looking for and if you feel you are this employee they are seeking than all of that will speak for itself with no pushing involved. Again Good luck my friend.

Re: Job Posting e-mail query.
You might consider calling them and seeing where they are in the process. Let them know you are still interested so to speak. Good luck Duke.

Re: Job Posting e-mail query.
See my problem BB is I've never had to wait this long for even the smallest sign so it's literally killing me. Usually I'm contacted within a day or two so I'm vexed that I've had to wait 1 week today
I don't think I've come off as too pushy or desperate because I've only resent once over the course of a week but I'll heed your advice the next time around.

Re: Job Posting e-mail query.
That ad is still up right? Does it say anywhere how long until? If you sent anything you should have asked that question, thats of most importance! I hate waiting for things......it kills me. Normally if i get an interview i always get a yep or nope right there. I am dominant in my interviews, i keep that eye contact and the ears and body posture firm yet open. I rarely get no's, i kill them in there!
I think the fact you have been with the company you have been with so long is GREAT. That should shine through on there. Thats really extremely important for employers. The interviewing process and loss of help being short staffed is not a joy to any employer. So when they hire, they want some one to stay, to be career oriented, to be dedicated, to be a part of the team they can count on.
If this particular choice happen to not work out for you ( i hope it does!) then somebody else will scoop you up quick. It is rare people stay in the same place, same job these days. People seem to be more shifty. To see that on an application or resume is kinda like seeing gold! So just keep that in mind.
