I never heard of interviewing for a promotion. You do good work, they promote you. Weird!

well our sturture has pay grades and so better positions are interviewed for...but i dont think im gonna get it, i didnt do well on the technical questions and the questions are designed to be really hard, but i cant believe everybody else did worse then me.

It really depends whether they were looking for the answers, or for the correct approach for the problem. The latter is not that uncommon at all. Just wait and see.
