Ahhhhh I feel soooo much better!
So I don't know if any of you read anything about my job in the other thread in the lighter side, but I've been a little pissy at work lately just due to certain things.
Well, I've found my saving grace. Because our computer systems are networked together we can all do the same thing, no matter where in the company we are. That being said, I've now taken on work from the Vancouver office as well as the Calgary office on top of doing the work I normally do for the Toronto office.
In the couple weeks I have been doing this, I've actually done more work for the other 2 offices combined than I have done for the Toronto office in the 4 months I have been there. My work is top notch with an almost perfect accuracy rate, and I get the work done in record time. The Calgary office fired one of the new girls they hired at the beginning of this week, so not only are they short staffed, they are also in their busy season. I've taken a lot of stress and worry out of that office. It feels pretty good too because even though I never get a "Good Job" or "Nice work" from this office, all I get is praise from the other guys. They are letting the VP of the Eastern Division (my immediate boss) know about this too, which is amazing considering bonus time is coming up in a month and this will definately reflect on it!
Basically when I go to work, I do everything for the Toronto office in about a half hour, and then read the news or play a couple games of mine sweeper until my old supervisor gets to the Calgary office at about 7:30am his time. I'll give him a call and within minutes I have about 3-4 hours worth of work to do. Then I'll give the Vancouver office a call and they will send me another 2-3 hours worth of work. The majority of the work I get from them are the super rushes that need to be done within a few hours - it's almost like I never left Calgary, because that's the majority of the work I did there - all on the super rush basis.
Once I'm done it all I'll just send it back to Tom to audit. Why don't I give it to my auditor here in the Toronto office so she has something to do? Cause I don't trust her work and if I happen to make a mistake, I don't want it being missed and released because according to the people in the Toronto office, it would be *my* fault and not the auditors (Joanne) even though it's her sole job to make sure everything is correct - that's how it was in the past and I don't see that mentality changing any time soon.
I've also started keeping a file of everything I have done from the other 2 offices too and it's actually getting bloody huge. I'm more productive, I'm happy going into work, I'm never bored and I just have an all around better outlook on everything now.
Oh yeah, I'm also by myself for the next week and a bit as Joanne (my supervisor) is off til sometime next week - so I get to listen to my music much louder than when she is here and it's GREAT. I work so much better with loud music. When she gets back though, *I* get to train *HER* on how to do *HER* job. I had such a good laugh with the VP here told me that. I also suggested that I train her on how to do my job too as she *should* know it already. He was a little weary about it but then I brought up the fact that I am going on vacation and that the last time I did, everything she did was wrong and I had to fix it when I came back - and I don't feel I should have to redo work that was done wrong because it should have been done correct in the first place. He agreed with me on that, so it looks like when she is back, we are going to switch jobs. She'll do mine, I'll do hers and at the same time I'll be training her.
Time to show the VP that I can do a better job at everything
Now I just need to figure out how to get the Account Officer to follow procedures hahaha. I'll be giving her a lot of slack this week though as it is just myself and her for the entire week.

Re: Ahhhhh I feel soooo much better!
Great to hear everything is going well for you, Weiser! It sure helps to be happy at one's job since we spend so much of our lives there.
Come to think of it, why do they even need her there at all?

Re: Ahhhhh I feel soooo much better!
There needs to be 2 people in operations. 1 to do the work, the other to audit and approve it. Even if I had the clearance to approve work, the way our system is set up will not allow the person that has done the work to approve it. It prevents fraud. Like, if I could approve my own work, who is to say I could make a certificate in my name worth 70 million, sell it and then move to some place that Canada can't extradite me from.
As to why we need her? I don't really think we do. The other 2 people in my office can approve my work, and I audit my own stuff anyways, so it's not really like she is needed. She would have been fired a LONG time ago if this was Calgary, but it's not so she has a free, extremely well paid, ride.
I'm just waiting for the day that we get busier and I get promoted, because then I will have the power and authority to make this place run like it should! Although, if that doesn't happen I'll probably look for a different job or try and transfer to Vancouver - but that's another matter that won't come up for a very long time.

I understand. Thanks for the explanation, Weiser!
How would you feel about moving to Vancouver when the time comes?

Re: Ahhhhh I feel soooo much better!
I would have no problems moving to Vancouver what so ever.
I even know quite a few people there too from my time in Banff - a lot of those people were from there and have since moved back. Plus I hear it's a beautiful place.

Can I apply? I may not be qualified within the specific field, but I am quite adept at mathematics, and I can't stand a job done just okayishly.

If you ever moved here or we ever opened up an office over there, you would have a job!

There are two faces to it…some believe and some do not. And when I had the dream analysis I found that it meant my motivation was becoming higher and when I put it in my life…its true.

Re: Ahhhhh I feel soooo much better!
Sooooo, I just got back from Calgary tonight and it was GREAT! I ended up working on the Thursday I got there, as well as today until I had to go to the airport - Didn't have a problem doing that as I got a free cab ride and 2 more vacation days added on to my total.
As usual, I busted arse and got a ton of stuff done - and it was noticed, and has been noticed for a while (I just didn't know it). I had wanted to talk to Randy about pretty much everything and I got my chance today.
We shot the **** for a bit and then got down to business. Basically what came of this was that
1. I am going to Vancouver in August to train people there when their cage opens. I actually suggested this, this was part of Randy's response and I quote "That's the best f&^king idea I never had!" So I'll be down there for a week, all expenses paid. Don't have a set date yet, but d00k gimme yer number buds. We're goin out for a wobbly pop.
2. My bonus is going to be "bigger" because I am showing initiative and doing so much work for the other offices. Randy has heard from multiple people (not me) about how much I have been going out of my way to help the other offices and he was very impressed.
3. If things don't shape up in the Toronto office, a couple people are going to get fired and I will get me a nice fat raise / promotion This will happen in the next 3 months. I'm pretty excited for this, as bad as it sounds, but stuff isn't changing and I'm finding out the people there are more useless than I thought.
4. I am going to start taking courses to give me a better understanding of the business and all that. Randy's going to foot the bill.
5. I get to set up a meeting and have a lunch & learn with all the people from OPs to show them how I do my work and how they can speed up what they do. I'm already the fastest person with the best accuracy and Randy wants everyone else to be like me lol.
I might sound like I have an over inflated head right now, but between hearing all of that from the executive VP of the company AND the rest of the time at stampede and all the "fun" I had...oh man.
Reality is going to suck tomorrow

Re: Ahhhhh I feel soooo much better!
It sounds you had a great outcome of the Stampede . Not only some issues within the company are starting to get settled, but also your performance is being noted.
How was the Stampede itself?

GREAT stuff with your job, Weiser! I don't think you are over-inflated; I think you work very hard and it's GREAT to see it's appreciated, noticed, and something is being done to give you what you SO deserve!

Re: Ahhhhh I feel soooo much better!
The stampede was AWESOME! It was so good to see my best friend again! Things with Rachel went really awesome until the last day, then she just went all weird and I don't know what is up now, but whatever I'm sure it's nothing?
So, we had a staff meeting here in Toronto today and one of the topics of conversation was me doing so much work for Calgary & Vancouver. Apparently they (toronto folk)don't really approve of this because I should be helping out here first. Well, I tried that daily for a while and always got a "no, i don't need any help". So I got tired of that and went to the other offices. Well, someone made a stink about it and now everything I do has to go through Lisa our account officer. First of all, she's not even in my department and she is NOT my boss. I don't need to give her a play by play of everything I do. If anything I would tell Joanne, but since she does dick all every day I hardly find this necessary. Secondly, if I'm supposed to be helping her, why does she refuse help when I ask her - besides that, she's never busy and if she is, it's her own damn fault. Here is an idea, show up to work on time, don't take 3 20 minute breaks and an extended hour lunch and *maybe* just maybe you will have time for everything.
It's rediculous I tell you and I am ready to put in for a transfer to Vancouver and just flip them all the bird. I did my best when I was talking to Randy to NOT mention the perpetual lateness and extend-o breaks cause I didn't want to sound like a whiney b^t@h but now I am thinking I probably should have...
Anybody have any ideas / thoughts on the matter?
