First off, welcome Patrick and thanks for joining our community! It's always nice to see new blood in here especially when it's via referral so if I haven't thanked you already Faye, then thanks for bringing Patrick here.
To speak toward moderation I don't believe we're very strict here because we don't moderate the forums all that much really. Much of the public moderation you see is meant to thwart link spamming, blatant self promotion and links to nefarious sites. I'd like to echo pretty much everything Vautrin said because he's right on the money (as usual).
Lifesupporters.com is a "
Family Friendly" Website listed with
Family Friendly Sites,
ICRA and
Safesurf and officially certified as "
Web Everyone". Our target audience for this site is tweens to adult however our primary audience at this time is mostly adult with only 1 actively registered teen and 2 somewhat active tweens. Wherever possible we ask that people be somewhat cognizant of the fact tweens will be reading the topics so if you avoid starting off every sentence with F then we should be ok.
This is not to say we are a bible camp as we are not. We'd prefer profanity be kept down so we'd likely moderate if it got excessive however everyone drops an F bomb now and again, it's human nature. All sensitive curse words are automatically edited replacing text with a *.
Really all we ask is that everyone treats each other as they themselves would like to be treated. It's human nature to not agree on everything but we see no need for making someone feel like an idiot just because their ideals or beliefs are different from yours.
You'll also notice we do not take a firm stance on spam as most boards do. We acknowledge that topics take on a life of their own so we pretty much leave them be unless we see value in splitting the topic (which we don't really do that often).
At the end of the day we just want to provide a warm, caring, healthy and supportive environment for as many people as possible. In other words if you don't get your jollies by making others feel like sh1t then you'll fit in nicely.
I'd also like to add that much of where we are is due 110% to member input from great people such as yourself. If at any time you think we could change something to better your experience then by all means start a new topic in our
Suggestion Box Forum and we'll discuss it as a community.
Once again, welcome

I have considered this in the past but always decided against it due to the semantics of having such a forum on a site like this. There have been a few times where the vBulletin Permissions have reset (essentially allowing site wide access across all usergroups) and my biggest fear is that the wrong eyes get access to this type of forum.
If I were to add this type of forum it would only be available to members with a minimum of 50 or 100 posts simply because anyone can lie about their age when registering but it's difficult when posting long term over a forum.
There would also be some limitations as to what can and can't be linked to such as pr0n, hate, tobacco, drug, etc., type sites.
If this sounds agreeable to you all then maybe we can discuss this topic further in the
Suggestion Box Forum.
