Default Why don't 'joiners' post?

This topic has miffed me from day one on Lifesupporters. Just being a member on a couple of forums I guess I just don't understand the workings too much...so my question is:

Why do people join forums and then not make a single post? Okay, I can understand that joining and making a few posts and just not feeling comfortable or something, but to join and make not a single post....what's up with that???

There's many reasons such as:
  • joining to unlock hidden content from non-registered users
  • to track important topics via e-mail updates
  • bots
  • to attempt a link back to their site via a forum profile or signature
...I'd also assume the number is roughly double for guests who just visit the site and read the updated content but will never register.

Personally, I don't understand the reason for re-visiting a site without registering and participating but I'm sure not everyone is comfortable with posting right away in a new forum. It may actually be tougher to post here given how close the members are to one another so it may add pressure to posting that first post.

Not sure.

I guess I just don't understand....if I found a warm forum such as this that made one feel like family and just welcomed one with open arms, you bet your sweet patooti I would be posting just to be in such a family!

But then, I'm quite shameless as tkdlady knows; I've invited myself to her home for a BBQ or ice cream for a few weeks now...

I understand what your saying and agree with you. I just don't think that everyone sees it this way.

I would be open to listening to a different point of view in order to stop being judgmental about his issue...

i think Duke has a point..

Sometimes when epopel are very close other people dont feel "included" within the group and it might put them off posting.

but it does also work the other way around some people may feel more inclined to join in when people are all close friends.

i also think sometimes people are regstered on too many forums sometimes and forget they are registered here!

Thanks, GG! All good points that I've never thought of....maybe I'm too single-minded!

I have to admit that when I joined I was a tad intimidated by the closeness here and found it hard to start posting. Everyone seemed to be reading each others minds or they were talking about things that happened here long before I joined and it was hard to feel like I fit in. Of course, I joined because of a major heartache which was quite fresh at the time making the lighter posts hard to get into in the first place. I think it took me about 6 months before I realized that Luba was Duke's mom. Merika, Stone and Luba certainly made my first weeks here wonderful and that helped.

Wow! I understand now because this is from a perspective from someone who just started to post and how hard it seemed then; but joining in nevertheless! I'm SO happy that you did, tkdlady! You are such a GREAT friend to me....(I don't just invite myself to everybody's BBQ)

I am humbled that you want to come to my BBQ. I would certainly make it the best one ever.
