Ok it was a Norweigian Royal.....same difference

Nils was then knighted by British Maj. Gen. Euan Loudon on behalf of Norway's King Harald V. Loudon dropped the king's sword on both sides of Nils's black-and-white frame, and the penguin's colonel-in-chief badge, tied to his flipper, was swapped for one symbolizing his knighthood.
"He'll be a "sir" now," Finlay said.

Both the Norwegians and the Dutch are fond of their fish. I guess that makes enough of a similarity not to bother with the actual geographical differences.

It would help if Holland, Norway, and Teh Netherlands were further apart.

Are you suggesting we may mix up Michigan and Illinois?

I think you might really confuse the Dutch doing that. I always wondered why the Dutch live in Holland but call it the Netherlands.

That is because the language in Medieval Europe was called "Diets", which ultimately made it into English as "Dutch". The Dutch eventually bastardised "Diets" into "Duits" to designate the German language.

Medieval Dutch was not called "Nederlands" (which is what modern day Dutchies call the language).

It is even funnier in the national anthem...

The lyrics of the first two lines are:
"Wilhemus van Nassaue,
ben ik van Duitsen bloed"

Wilhelmus van Nassaue, was / is the father of state.
"ben ik van Duitsen bloed" translates as:
"Am I of German blood."

Where the second line actually refers to Dutch (Diets). Thus the modern day translation is faulty, and the correct translation would be: "Am I of Dutch blood."

Holland was the province that was the mightiest in the Union. The area covers present day North & South Holland provinces, where cities like The Hague, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Leiden, Haarlem, etc. are to be found.

It is even more annoying when Dutch people refer to the Netherlands as "Holland", as if the other 10 provinces are non-existent or inconsequential.

We even fail at nationalism.

very strangely, on the radio today i heard an argument between britain and america people. it was about anti-americanism.

the british woman was saying how ignorant and loud the americans were, and the american was saying how dumb the british were.

a guy called the radio station and joined in, tho he sided with BOTH the british and the americans. i felt like applauding him. for while the british woman was acusing the americans of starting wars he pointed out we too had our fair share.

she said americans say they single handedly won ww2, he pointed out without the americans to help, althought we had did a great job of holding them off, we couldnt of pushed them back.

the america went on to say how we british were stupid not to have a gun law, the middleman pointed out we DO, a law banning them. we are not a big country and guns would cause more of a problem then help because we have not had the need to use them. basically saying its too late to introduce them now, we are used to our law.

the american pointed out we dont know our naitonal anthem or our pledge to our country. the middleman said no but we DO know the american capital as well as our own.

this went on for ages, untill finally both the anti-american and anti-brit couldnt think of something the middleman had a good response to.

we have our differences, as do all countries. there will be anti-americanism in britain, just as their is anti-britishism in america, as there is probably between american and germany, and germany and britain. etc etc

i for example, have met many more fat americans then british, however ive met many more arrogant rude british people then american!

every country has their faults, but its not good to pick on them and keep picking till it causes another war. we should be greatful for our countries and the countries we call friends.

they advertised this website on the radio

America and the World » Your Resource to the World » The latest in online textbooks, a multimedia presentation of 20th century world history and American foreign policy.

it was from the middleman, he wants to STOP anti-americanism. and i agree. why war with our friends. theres enough fighting going on in the world!

the americans i have met, and love (im marrying one for christ sake) have all become extremely dear friends that i would do anything for, and i know they feel the same way back. this forum is a great example of the friendship between our countries. it doesnt have a big banner on it saying "europeans only"

we are all human, and we should stick together!

I don't believe I've bashed anyone yet. Not even the Brits, and yea, not even the French.....though I'm that close.

Not I. But the real Canadian issues are your weird black squirrels, mutant mice eating seagulls, and lack of chunky style blue cheese dressing. Compared to that, living year round in a hollowed out ice cube seems normal.
