Touching, etc.
CANOE -- CNEWS - Weird News: Virginia school forbids hugs, high-fives
I read this article in our local Newspaper while having coffee at one of my favourite places before going to work yesterday. It really bothered me as I am a very hugging/touching type of person! When talking to a friend or someone I really care about,if the person is close enough, a lot of the time my natural reaction is to touch their hand, arm or shoulder especially if it's a warm conversation; it's like a connection for me out of caring for that person...
How do you all feel about touching or being touched? Do you like it, or does it make you uncomfortable? Do you like being hugged or not?
I thought not even being able to 'high-five' which is a but much!

AHHHHHH, I LOVE to hear THAT!!!! I also hug complete strangers, especially when I worked in Retail. I would ask a Senior citizen "How are you today?" and because some were lonely, they LOVED to chat and some would share their troubles...I would listen and hug them and they would hug me back. I LOVED that....until my wonderful Boss told me one day that unless I had the time (we were short-staffed) to chat, not to ask how they were doing. He was a great Boss and knew the way I am, so it wasn't a put-down on his part, only a little advice on finding a way to make the conversation shorter while not hurting their feelings. I always honour that Boss in my mind, just one more thing he taught me....

Re: Touching, etc.
I am not touchy / huggy at all. But the Germans and the Dutch do have serious issues in that department.

Vautrin, I'm curious...if you met all or one of us, would you give us a hug? If I hugged you, would you hug back...or would you be uncomfortable?

When i worked at a bar, i became good friends with allt he regulars and id often sit and chat and play suduko on a quiet late afternoon and give them a hug when i saw them or when they were leaving.
I always think a hug is a very nice thing to do for someone too, its amazing how a little bit of contact and friendliness can make someone feel so much better after a bad day,
luba id love to meet you one day, you are such a nice person!

Re: Touching, etc.
I enjoy hugging and being hugged. It does make me feel better when someone touches me especially when I am having a bad day. I didn't used to be this way. Taekwondo has helped me here. I didn't mind being touched and hugged but I usually didn't start it. Now I will even ask for a hug from people or just go give them one.

That is one of my fears. Mistinterpretation, and subsequent a$$whooping.

Re: Touching, etc.
I didn't mean that I kick peoples' a$$es due to it! I meant that the people of Taekwondo are so nice and sharing that we all hug when we see each other. I have gotten used to it.

Plus Taekwando will help dealing with unwanted and undesirable attention.
Yikes. Don't know how that emoticon came in.
