He directed the quote at me, so I turned around. If that's an insult, then so be it. Ban me.

Re: The Price of Oil
That's kind of ridiculous F&L, I'm not looking to wave a banstick around and I don't think I come off as that kind of person. I simply do not want to see argumentative posts here so if Vautrin came off that way then please take it up with him via PM's. If you wish I'll ask he do the same.
I merely asked that the insults be removed and it's a fair comment; maybe I should have directed it at everyone so for that you have my apologies.

Frankly, I don't think anyone, including myself, really understand the U.N.
To Whom is The U.N. accountable?
Where does THE Buck Stop for the U.N.??
I think the U.N. is the planet's sociological reaction to Nazi-style Dictatorship: The only thing its REALLY good for is preventing genocide in Europe. Even there, it does a half-ass job (Serbian Genocide in Bosnia).

Re: The Price of Oil
I know I don't understand the UN either because to me it should be the Global Police Department ensuing fairness throughout the land (no I'm not puffing the cheeba).

I think this is what MOST of the planet thinks.
IMHO the ONLY purpose of the UN is to prevent WW III.

It's exceeded it's mandate then. And it's not doing a very good job of preventing WW III...at most it's delayed it. IMO, diplomacy often seems to be more about delaying the inevitable, than forging lasting peace.

The UN mandate doesn't equal Reality.
"preventing," or "delaying"........how can you tell the difference? The point being, nothing like German Armies are Purging European Populations.

I meant no harm. I posed the question and sincerely hope that Vautrin will respond.

I guess Kierkegaard was right: "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought, which they avoid."

Is that why you want government to protect you? So you can avoid thinking.

Given the context of our discussion, it's a legitimate question.

The answer to that would be Yes.
The UN has morphed into the Society for the Mutual Protection of Totalitarian Dictatorships with a few minority members of Free States to legitimize the thugs and to foot the bills.
The U.S. should resign, and kick them out of NYC.

Well, Bill Clinton would love to be President of That.
The UN for years has been looking for a pretext to implement a Global Tax to support its massive and corrupt bureaucracy. This is why they glommed onto the Global Warming Scare and cooked up the scientifically flawed IPCC report.
Given how well they managed the Oil for Food program which enabled Saddam Hussein to commit massive fraud, giving them more resources would be idiotic.
