This is sad, however, what emotional upheaval will it do to all the children?

the kids lose either way, either they stay with a bunch of nutjobs or they go to the state and are part of the bad foster care system.

I can't comment on the state facilities, so I won't. But these children have been brought up in a totally different environment, than "normal" society. So it is a bit hard to see anything going well, without all kinds of counseling, and support groups for them.
