They're in the business of extracting, refining, and selling petroleum products. It's what they do, so it's not practical to expect them to do something else, or push competing products. It was'nt the manufacturers of VCR's that were out extolling the many benefits of DVD's.
Then again, they're still the only game in town. Until something better comes along, and supplants oil, (which imo will not be happening any time soon), we're stuck with dirty old oil, and we should perhaps think long and hard before restricting it's use.
