MGC Chatbox
I think it's a wonderful addition to Lifesupporters....it's even more personal now to say 'hello' to someone who's posting and have a laugh or two...
Great addition, Duke, and many thanks!

Re: MGC Chatbox
It is awesome. But we must not overuse it. Else there will be no new posts.

Re: MGC Chatbox
I think we will still post. There are plenty of times when no one is on except me so I post then and check the chatbox often as well. I like the posting. It gives us things to talk about in the chatbox!

Re: MGC Chatbox
No problem, glad to add it.
I do want you guys to keep an eye on site performance now because we're apparently experiencing an increased number of hiccups and I worry that the chat may have something to do about it. These programs are infamous for adding to server load which is one of the reasons it took me so long to finally integrate a chat with lifesupporters.
I don't plan on getting rid of it because I do think it's essential to have one. Just please let me know if your seeing increased site load times because it may mean we'll have to upgrade the server a bit.
Thanks.

Re: MGC Chatbox
I am slightly unobservant. Where would we see these site load issues?

Navigating the site, posting and replying to messages. If the site is running slow now when it hadn't in the past, it's a good clue that the chat is eating up too many resources.

Re: MGC Chatbox
I think Duke disabled it, as chatsoftware is quite demanding on the server. But as you have seen, the chat is still accessible.

I got rid of it on the bottom pages as that was only testing for chat party purposes. I really don't like the idea of it being at the bottom of the forums as it ads too much to page length/scrolling and I believe chat box x 4 is too hard on the server.
When I disabled it, the site seemed to speed up rather dramatically (at least on my end) so I'd rather keep it as a separate entity on it's own page. As Vautrin said, it's still accessible, just not on the main page at least for now.

Re: MGC Chatbox
It is hard to tell with my wireless connection whether the problems are with the site or my connection. When things seem to slow down and I check my network speed it is usually down from where it should be. Don't know why it fluctuates so much. It will start at 54 Mbps and then sometimes drop to 5 Mbps and slowly go back up or it jumps around. Can't understand why.

Re: MGC Chatbox
It may not be your router, it may be your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
