Re: Infant dies after his Mother forgets to....
I too don't understand how a person, especially a mother, who probably does this daily, could forget. I think they should have the book thrown at them. That is one of the stupidest excuses. I think they are either on drugs, drunk, or wanted to kill their kids.

Re: Infant dies after his Mother forgets to....
I think these things happen, because people's lives are nothing short of a routine. And we all know how these things occasionally are forgotten.

Re: Infant dies after his Mother forgets to....
It's pretty hard to forget a child though. I know there's a lot going on in peoples lives but how someone can forget about their child is beyond me.

Re: Infant dies after his Mother forgets to....
How often does it not happen, that people go on holidays and forget about a pet?? Or go somewhere and forget about someone / something.
You are probably well aware of the things you can forget if you don't sleep enough. And that includes doing / checking for the most obvious of things.

Okay, when a person gets out of the car, don't they have to look back to lock it even if they have a remote control device? How can you NOT see your child in the back seat? I'm very confused about this....

Re: Infant dies after his Mother forgets to....
I'm just speaking as a parent because I've never once forgotten my child was with me. This is the reason I can't fathom how someone can be too busy to remember their child.
I can see a person forgetting their wallet, a pen, or some groceries but forgetting a child is impossible, at least in my minds eye. Being a parent is the biggest, life altering, event in ones life so how can you possibly forget it?
You may get married but you may also get divorced, you may get a great job but you may also get fired, however, once a parent, always a parent.
Maybe my views on parenting are the reason I find it impossible to imagine forgetting my child anywhere. I put her life in front of mine in everything I do so in my world, it's more likely I'd forget about myself than my child.

I am with Duke on this one. Some things you just don't forget. They are too big.

That may hold true for you. But in this case, the mother was trying to take the kid to daycare - depending on the age of the child that may mean 40-50% of the time spent "together", was driving back and forth to / from the daycare. Which may mean this act of procreation was more or less an inconvenient part of a routine. Then again, why have a kid?

Well, I think most of you are being judgmental (and yes I am judging you for it)
What if that mom wanted to join this forum and get some understanding? If you put yourself in her shoes, what do you want her to do NOW--commit suicide b/c she can't forgive herself?
Yes, you can delete my post if you want, I just think she has a LOOONG road ahead if she is ever going to forgive herself. She made a BAD mistake. It must be a nightmare she hopes she will wake up from.
Even you, who say you are understanding, are blaming her as if she did it on purpose
I think you need to reread your own rules

mm
im with you shopaholic on this one actually
i dont blame the mother, may be her fault.
But does she need us judging her? i mean, could you possibly imagine loosing a child? and KNOW its due to a fault o your own?
that woman will torture herself for this for the rest of her life. I jut can phantom the pain and elf-destruction she will now put herself through.

Pat, I consider myself admonished...I honestly never thought of the Mother now, just the child. I'm very glad you made this post! While I don't understand how it could happen, I realize the Mother didn't do this on purpose and has a long road of healing in front of her, if she is ever able to heal!
Obviously, my judgmental attitude in this case is a wake-up call....

luba,
Its fine to feel this way and this is definetly a learning opportunity for her and society as well. Have no clue how to explain why part of it.
Thank you.
