Are you ready to put your child's life down on this because I'm sure not? Speaking of families, how about the victims families? I find it interesting how their voices are often silent.

As you said there were options available to the courts at the time of her sentencing, they chose life and that's exactly the toll they should exact.

My child is in more danger from the criminals yet to be identified then by the one that is being released w/a terminal disease.

She did the crime now she should do the time. I am sorry if her family doesn't get to hold her while she dies. Neither did the families of the ones she helped kill. She made a bad choice and maybe she regrets it but there are consequences to all our actions.

She has faced consequences for her actions. The publicity involved with the Manson family - esp Manson himself- makes it easy to use them as GET TOUGH scape goats.

The truth is

Quote:
7 in 10 prisoners with a life sentence expect to be released

For calculation of average sentence length and percent of sentence
served, prisoners sentenced to life in prison or to death were excluded.

Such offenders account for about 6% of violent offenders admitted to
State prisons each year. In 1992 an estimated 5,700 violent offenders
were admitted with a life or death sentence.

In the 1991 survey, about 1 in 6 State prisoners serving time for a violent offense had received a sentence to life in prison or to death. About 74% of them had been convicted of homicide; 9% convicted of rape or sexual assault; 9%, of robbery; 4%, kidnaping; and 4%, assault.

Among prisoners with a life sentence ¾ 69% reported that they
expected to be released 18% reported that they did not know if or when they would be released 13% reported that they would never be released.

Based on this survey information, an estimated 2% to 5% of violent offenders would never be released from prison and contribute to the
calculation of time served.

If perfectly healthy violent criminals are being released- why can't she be?

Again- you can contend that those released early on life sentences should not be- but that needs to be an action taken across the board.

As things currently stand- she is being held to a stricter guideline than others with the same sentence.

Furthermore- she was sentenced in a time when our country really was less forgiving of criminals. During his sentence Manson himself was given a reprieve when executions were abolished and his sentence was made a life imprisonment.

IMHO- Today she probably would have never even been sentenced to life. Sad but true. Especially in CA.

I still say it is the MANSON name that makes law enforcers try win a few brownie points by being as tough as possible on them.

Sick.

I hate to say it but I hope she dies alone and in pain.

Sorry folks for being an @ss but I do believe in an eye for an eye because sorry isn't enough and sorry never brings back the dead.

HER family did not choose her actions at that time. You could even argue that SHE did not choose her actions at that time if you care to open the debate to how much a person is responsible for their actions when under the control of another.

Guns can also get into the wrong hands. A gun has no morals nor does it have any compassion for whom it shoots. My gun can just as easily kill me as it can you.

I don't think they should be released either. I think violent criminals should lose their rights once they've been convicted and either remain incarcerated or put to death.

I only speak in this topic as she's who we're discussing; I think overall our justice system is a complete joke.

If this were the case then she should have been put in an asylum instead of sentenced to life. Since she was sentenced to life then she should be stuck with that sentence.
