Default You know it's bad for you

but you still do it. What is it you do that makes you suffer needlessly or isn't good for you either mentally or phsically?

smoking. I know that it's not healthy for me, I'm coughing more then ever and I still smoke. Hopefully one day I can stop.

eating junk food. The evenings is the worst. I have to munch of chips or chocolate. I should change that habbit and munch on carrots instead but it's not the same thing.

Smoking, which I gave up about a month ago, cold turkey.

But I'd only smoke about a pack a week, and I'd only been doing it for about 6 months, so giving it up wasn't such a big deal I suppose. Interestingly, the detrimental health effect was noticable even with this small quantity over a short period.

Based more on my own experience than any warning from the surgeon general, I'd encourage anyone to cease this habit.

I could quit smoking...but don't plan to.
I could quit drinking....but don't plan on doing that either.
I could get more sleep....or more sex to offset the tired feeling.

I could....but I won't.

I've been a smoker for 28 years. I'd say I've been addicted to smoking for about 22 years. Quitting this is easier said then done when you've been smoking this long. It's about the only enjoyment I have. The only thing I have that relaxes me. I smoke a pack every 2 days. Hubby smokes a pack a day.

I do want to quit one day. when? i don't know.

Cigs are a big financial expense.....and much more so in Canada than here. That would be my main reason for quitting....if I were going to.

easier said then done DA. I knew about that when i started smoking...didn't stop me any. My great aunt that just died a few days before turning 100 years old smoked until she died. i'm not saying that smoking is good for you because it isn't healthy but when you're addicted to smoking cigarettes, it's extremely hard to stop. Especially when you live a stressful life to begin with. A lot of things available out there aren't good for us but we still do it.

we don't smoke in the house anymore (we used to up until we moved here). Kassandra asked us not to and we don't. We respect that she shouldn't have to breathe that in. Now, I don't smoke in front of any child. I'll step outside if I have to have one. I think the second hand smoke is more harmful then the filtered smoke us smokers inhale. Second hand smoke isn't filtered at all.

Actually there is no conclusive studies to show that 2nd hand smoke does anything. To the best of my knowledge.

actually, it's all over the TV in commercials here so there must be some kind of conclusive studies done on it. There's this one commercial where this woman never smoked a day in her life. she's got a smokers tumor from second hand smoke and is dying from it. she worked in a restaurant for years when smoking was allowed in those places. That should prove there is some truth to the second hand smoke thing i would think.

what is a smokers tumor? I don't know how much credance I give the 2nd hand smoke/cancer theory- I do believe it aggravates asthma though. Did you know there are cases where peeps have "spontaneously" developed HIV?

Things I do

smoke
drink
eat sweets

i'm guessing that a smokers tumor would be like lung cancer. I'd have to look it up to be sure as to what it is exactly.

I never heard of anyone spontaniously getting HIV. How would that be possible? it's a blood to blood desease. where did you hear that? You've got my curiousity going now. :?
