What to do
When your knuckles are all split open and hurt like a mofo....
I got into a fight last night, I was in a horrible mood all day and work was extremely rough, which just made my mood even worse.
Went to the bar with some friends after, thinking I'd let off some steam. Well we stay til the end of the night and as we are leaving I decide to stay and finish my smoke and make a phone call. Friends leave in their car.
Not 30 seconds later some dude walks up to me and asks what I was looking at (meaning him). I'm like, not much (with a laugh). Yadda yadda he pushes me. I tell him to back off, it's not a good day to be doing this. He pushes me again and I laid him out. He gets back up and we go at it for a bit....Eventually he's on the ground and I just lose it.
So, my knuckles are a wreck and my back/sides are killing me right now. The good thing is I won and he didn't touch my pretty face.
Now, don't go thinking I go out looking for fights. I don't. This is my second real fight I've ever been in. So far I'm 2/2.

Re: What to do
well at leasat you won...try not to use your knuckles when you fight, open palm is much less painful. tklady probably has some good tips also, not to advocate fighting or anything.

As a Taekwondo student and instructor, I would start by saying if you can walk away, then do it. But if it has to be, then don't ***** foot around and by all means use a fist not your open hand. You could break your wrist. Make a tight fist and punch straight.

Re: What to do
only use an open hand if you want to slap him silly.
i've never seen anyone fight with an open hand. the only time i see that is when a woman is slapping some guy across the face.
my daughter (kass) got into a fight a few dyas ago. the police brought her home. I was not a happy camper!! she got into 2 fights this year. the first with a girl at school. she didn't fight back and got beat up pretty bad. we taught her not to fight so she obeyed. after that incident, i told her that if someone's going to punch her or hit her first, then to fight back and hard. well, she did with the last one. she won that fight but, i still told her that fighting isn't a good thing but, when someone's going for you and punches you in the face, you have no choice but to defend yourself!!
she asked me if i would fight back. i had to say well yeah!
these 2 girls are jealous because she's got the guy that all the girls want. it's all over her boyfriend. things haven't changed much since i was a kid.

Oh yes...it made me feel 1000x better actually.
And as for what the other guy looked like. I think his nose exploded. Also, look at my avatar....That's peanuts.
I am a very laid back guy, and angry isn't really in my vocabulary. I let things roll off my back into this little jar, but once every few (3-4) years, the jar fills and has to break. Last night the jar broke and there was no mercy. Like I said, I lost it.
His fault though, I was content to let it be. I'm grateful the cops weren't involved, I don't need a record over something stupid like that after all I've been through.
I really do need to take pictures of my hands though, just to give you all an idea of what he may look like. It's not pretty.

I don't advocate fighting...but sometimes a guy has to do what a guy has to do...I'm sorry you're hurt, Weiser, but you sure as heck didn't ask for it or start it...what's the guy's problem anyway??? Have you ever seen him before?

palm strikes are better against bony targets, like faces, so you dont have what happened to weiser, yes if you do it wrong you can hurt your wrist if its done wrong...i was always taught to avoid normal punches if possible and use chops and strikes that dont hurt me as much... and in th eend im a elbow thrower or a knife fighter.

Actually, because Weiser talked about fists I didn't think of a palm heel. That would have been very effective right under the nose. Unless you know how to do it a knife hand strike would not be my first choice. The palm heel would have been good and if he came back after that then the punch to the same area as the palm heel. Still, avoid the fight if possible. No one really wins.

I would post new pics of my knuckles all scabby now, but someone stole my camera last saturday So I can't....but they're doing better now. It was both hands too, not just the one.
My sister has taught me a bit about kickboxing and techniques used with your arms (especially elbows). I just never thought of it at the time. I was pretty much just throwing hay makers at the guy.
