Default Warning from Nanaimo RCMP..please read

This subject, I think, has to do with keeping well, keeping safe: I received this E-mail message yesterday:

Subject: Caution from Nanaimo RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police)
From the Nanaimo coordinator of Commissionaires.
Imagine: You walk across the parking lot, unlock your car and get inside; you lock your doors, start the engine and shift into REVERSE; you look into the rear-view mirror to back out of your parking space and notice a piece of paper stuck to the middle of the rear window. So, you shift into PARK, unlock your doors and jump out of your car to remove that paper (or whatever it is) that is obstructing your view.

When you reach the back of your car, that is when the car-jackers appear out of nowhere, jump into your car and take off. Your engine is running, (ladies would have their purse in the car) and they practically mow you down as they speed off in your car.

Be aware of this New Scheme that is now being used extensively. Just drive away and remove the paper later (and be thankful that you just read this email!)

Remember, your purse contains all identification, and you certainly do NOT want someone getting into your home address. They already HAVE your keys!!!!

Thats why you should always walk around your car prior to getting in and starting it up.

How many people actually walk around their car to check things out? Most people open the door and jump in...at least the people I see in the Mall parking lot...

Unless I am opening the door for a girl (yes, I do that), I don't walk around. Then again I don't care about my car all that much. I use to do it with my old car, but not anymore.

That's great, DA, I think you are one of the few, though...

I pretty much always walk around my car unless I have a passenger. I'm not entirely sure why I do it, I just do.

A few months back, here in Alabama, there was a guy going around to gas stations and he'd wait until people were about to get back into their car and he'd flash a $20 or something and say "I think you dropped this" causing the people to stop. He'd then walk right up and rob them and one woman he even pushed into her car and then raped her. He evenually got caught because one woman KNEW she didn't have any cash b/c she'd paid with a debit card so she told him "No it's not mine" and got in her car. Her window was down so he stuck his arm in it and she rolled it up with in it and drove off and pinned him against a wall with her car and called the cops.
