This kind of sounded a little strange strange to me before i took Biology and Chemistry but my father used to swear on Grapefruit. He used to tell me that when ever my grandmother wanted to lose weight she would squeeze a couple of grapefruit a day and drink them, she would always lose a lot of weight too, ALOT OF WEIGHT!!!. This makes a lot of sence to me after having taken Chem and Biology. The acids in the grapefruit break down and burn the fats that water, which should break down the fats, has a hard time breaking down. Certain fats, the bad fats which make us fat the tri-fatty fats, are not easily broken down by water but the acid in grapefruit starts the process so water can do the rest. That's why they tell you to drink alot of water when on a diet.
I know they tell you to always stay away from sugar, but sugar cunsumption isn't that bad really, they only tell you to avoid it cause it pervents the fats from being broken down. It's a quantity issue really if you have more energy than you are burning in a day your body won't break down the fat stores you build up. If you eat alot of sugar the stored fats in your body can not be broken down for energy poduction cause the sugar is always being burned first, you want to destroy those fat deposits first. This is where the grapefruit really works it breaks down those fats reguardless of your sugar intake, as long as you drink enough of it.
The key foods to stay away form are the processed foods, white bread, starches, tortilla's etc... these are the worst foods we can possibly eat. Prolly why J-lo's trunk space is so big, too many tortilla's hehe. The best diet would be only eating foods high in protein and very little processed foods. But cutting out toomany fats are a bad idea too, it's very important to keep a balanced diet. Ever see a fat Chinaman? No you havn't because they don't eat the processed foods we eat, neither do the Japanese. If you cut out the processed foods you'll lose weight guarenteed, but you'll be hungry till your body readjusts! If you're hungry it's cause you are burning those fat deposits!! If you exercise you'll get rid of the hunger pains and change your metabolism, then the weight will STAY OFF for good. Almost any nutrition Dr. will tell you the same thing.

Life is too short to spend it eating healthy foods for a few extra years tacked on the end. I just don't want to live more years if all I can enjoy is healthy stuff and salads. :?

I agree, eat anything you want and enjoy it. It's just i feel so much better when i eat good healthy foods and work out. I hate feeling bad all the time, plus i try to stay away from meat in the stores cause of all the steriods and crap they shoot into the animals. When you eat the meat from a steriod induced animal you are eating what ever the animal ate or had injected into it as well. My parents' friend raises pigs for us and he feeds them nothing but good natural food, nothing store bought, and man can i taste the difference!!!! It is soooo good. The freaking pork steaks are about 1 1/2 thick!!! I also hunt alot and the meat form elk and deer is soo much better than cow, not to mention it is soo much more healthy for you. Elk and deer are like 98% fat free, and they taste way better than farm raised cows.
