Super Size me, Why are we so fat
anyone see the documentary "Super Size me" about McDonalds fast food ect.
I just finished watching it and it is deffinatly a program everyone should watch. The movie states that over 60% of americans are over weight the diabetes costs have doubled in children and it is not healthy to eat any fast food more than once a month while most americans eat it atleast once a week.
The program also has a great view on the way our children are being effected on fast food, candy, soda, processed food advertising and that children are no longer in PE classes more than once a week, while the public school cafeteria's are serving processed food with little nutritional value that come pre packaged, School Cafeteria's are no longer "cooking" anything they are just opening and reheating packages. THEN when a child goes to middle school or high school the children get to spen there lucnh money on Pepsi/ Coke products, Lays Patato Chips and little Debbies snacks.
The overweight epidemic is really getting out of control.

I haven't seen the documentary, but I'm pretty sure I'd agree with it.
I think one of the things that would help with people being so unhealthy, besides for eating out at fast food places so much, would be to just not eat so much.

I seen it awhile ago. i started a thread on it after i seen it too. It really turned me off fast food. we used to eat it way too much a few years ago but have cut back a LOT in the past couple of years. We'll eat fast food 2 to 4 times a month. before, we used to eat it 3 to 4 times a week!!!! it's no wonder i started to have a weight problem. i never had to worry about weight until then.
I couldn't believe how sick that guy got over eating micke dees for 30 days. his liver was being affected as if he was adrinking alcohol all day long everyday. nasty and scary!

But it is definitely not solely eating habits that are the cause of weight problems.
Is obesity as common in the countryside as it is common in urbanized cities? Are there occupations in which obese people are under-representated or over-representated? These are questions I wonder about.
You don't go for fastfood, when you have your own cook, or personnel at home.
Think for instance on the past-times our kids have, compared to the pasttimes we had when we were kids (especially for the older members). Chances are high that children now are physically less active than say 20 or 30 years ago.
Blaming fastfood for obesity is like blaming smoking for cancer. There is a relation, but it is by far not the only cause.

I totally agree with you. Society just isn't as active as we used to be 20 or 30 years ago. I remember going out in the mornings and not coming back in until supper time when i was a kid. we ran, jumped and did all kinds of active things. kids today are lazy. they're couch potatoes. they don't walk, run or play like we used to. they're sitting on their butts playing video or computer games and watching TV.

Great points guys 20-30 years ago both parents didn't work so there was more time for mom's to be home cooking healthier meals, and to supervise there children. now parents are working so much they come home exhausted to tired to cook and supervise there children outside. Also the times where you can just let the kids out and play and assume they will be safe are long gone.... at least they are around here... truley sad :?
i read somewhere that one of the reason's European's are healthier than Americans is because they eat smaller portions of there meals PLUs they do up to 5 times more walking than we do.

both my parents worked but my mother was always home after work to cook our meals. We ate out about 4 times a month then too but we did get more excercise then my kids do. My parents never knew where we were when we went out. after supper, we'd go back out there until dark. We were happy to be outside.
I think it has more to do with exercise rather then fast food. I ate a ton of junk food when i was a kid and never gained a pound.

but they really haven't stone if you think about it. Back then, things like molesting and kidnapping happened. it's just that we didn't hear about them like we do now. you couldn't tell anyone you got molested because we weren't taught that that's what we're supposed to do so we kept it to ourselves. I know a lot of people my age that they got molested, beat by their parents, etc... and nobody would know about that at that time.
That made us better parents to our kids. made us more aware of what's out there and made us talk to our kids about the dangers of strangers, good touching/bad touching, etc... We're more protective of our children then our parents were with us because we're aware.
