Re: Suffering from high blood pressure...
Hi TinyPooh, Welcome Back!
I had High Blood Pressure and was told I would have to be on Meds for life! Since I always try to find a way to deal with my health problems in a natural way, and thank God I had a doctor at the time who wasn't a 'pill pusher', we worked out a plan for me. I was prescribed Atenolol 50mg. I had to give up salt, needed to exercise, cut back on Stress, cut back on coffee to one cup, and I bought a blood-pressure machine cost about $100. So, that is what I did, and within three months I was down to half a pill, and within six months no medication at all.
Now I don't, for a moment, suggest you do the same thing. It just worked for me because I don't like taking pills other than vitamins, and echinacea when I feel a cold coming on. Talk to your doctor and make sure you are looked after every step of the way if you decide to seek alternatives other than pills...

Re: Suffering from high blood pressure...
Hi Luba , thanks loads for the link...I don't like to be on medication too ...if I can control it and if I can deal with it in a natural way,I'll not hesitate. But first of all, I have to stop coffee but I can't it's as if I am addicted to drinking coffee.Even the Doctor told me to moderate on coffee a while but can't really help it...but I guess, i'll have to stp. Now i'll have change my habits...stop eating unhealthy food, do some excercises.
Have you give up salt??? That's realloy a big sacrifice, but it's for your own benefit.I don't know if i'll be able to control all those things although I'll love to...Thanks again for your support ...

Re: Suffering from high blood pressure...
My mother has had Hi-BP for a very very long time.
So far the the worse ill-effect has been, a loss of over-all calcium in her body because the medication somehow did not allow her to absorb calcium as well as she should have been able to.
This caused her bones to weaken, and one time she was going down a bike trail and flipped. Well.... she shattered her wrist and knee, ended up having surgery with pins to help the bones mend.
Her BP could not be controlled by diet changes though, so she is still on Meds. She has to watch her salt intake very carefully and she MUST take calcium supplements.
Other than this she has no other problems with her BP and the Meds.
Moral of the story, absolutely make sure you know what the medication does to yur body while you are taking it.

Re: Suffering from high blood pressure...
You are welcome, TinyPooh! Glad you're back! Being on Lifers will also help you with your Blood Pressure as you can get such support, laughter, sympathy, joy; whatever you need is right here...and the only medication you can get here is to lift your spirits and that will bring your BP down!
Salt, sugar, and coffee was difficult to give up at first. When I quit cold turkey I had the worst headache in my life for a week. After four years, I realized I missed coffee,I now drink some, but I have cut down considerably from my coffee drinking days of before. Some days I have three cups...oh well! It usually is in half cup increments. The only salt I 'wave' around with a few sprinkles is on avacado (which I rarely have) and cucumber (sometimes). I don't put sugar in my coffee, actually I'm not sure where the sugar container is anymore!
Good luck to you, keep posting, and I, for one, will be ever on the Support list for you!
