Self Help
When your feeling depressed, down or just general malaise, do you turn to the support and kindness from friends or just internalize things?
Also, when suggestions are made do you really take the time to consider them or does it speed up as it passes from one ear, through the brain, then out the other ear?

If it's something that's really depressing me bad, then I'll talk to my friends and/or family about it.
I do listen to advice and suggestions that people give me and think about the advice as well. The advice (if good advice) always helps me to bring things back into perspective and move on.
I'm the type of person that if I'm asking for some advice, it's because I need some kind of solution to my problem that I can't seem to figure out on my own. Advice, opinions and suggestions do come in handy at times.

I am definitely in the self help category. I have suffered quite a few depressing periods. I am glad I did, and did not rely on medication, as right now, I am emotionally so much stronger. Even though the side-effect is that I am a very private and reserved person.
Even when I share my situation with others, it is rarely that I take things to heart, as I know myself better, than most other people know me.
Things depressing me, are bureaucratic forms and procedures. I really don't want to understand the insanity that underlies all the randomness of the rules and regulations. That is where I depend on others, to make sense out of things, because with plain logic I can't.

I was never one for taking any kind of medications either. I'd rather deal with things head on then to have to deal with them after the meds.
When I lost Krystal's father, my doctor wanted me to go on meds (nerve pills, depression pills, sleeping pills) and I refused them all. I don't think I would've recovered as fast if I did take those. I would've just prolonged it IMO.
Same thing goes with when Krystal started her crap at 13. My doctor suggested I go on sleeping pills at the least because I couldn't sleep at all. refused those as well and I have learned on my own to deal with it and move on to everyday life.
I do have a very good support group though with my family. I have 2 awesome sister in laws that i talk to everyday, friends and my parents.

When I am down I turn to my friends. I literally can't internalise, I resolve my feelings by expressing them.
Clinical depression is very different from feeling down, upset, hopeless or a general malaise. It is an illness which changes brain chemistry. It's unrealistic to expect someone to listen to suggestions, act on them and get well as a result. As with any illness, there's much that can be done to help yourself. Usually, external help in the form of medication and/or counselling is needed to do get to that point.

I usually just stay in a crappy mood a couple of days. Sometimes I whine to Meanon during one of our beer fests or end up posting on here. To me, life is designed to have ups and downs.....and it's not so much WHAT they are caused by....but how we harness them and refuse to let them control our lives in the long run which determines our character.

I grew up with them, worked with them and have friends who are. They aren't any different than anyone else. Don't be fooled by all the stigmas.
Random, Paul, Star, Stone and I are all the kinds of people you find in churches around the world. The thought that people in church are all stuffy ..is just wrong. Generally, the only difference is that their life issue opinions are based on a different core value.

LOL I am actually attending church twice a week for the last few weeks and listening to the christian channel PLUS reading the bible before bed. Some say I am becoming a "Holly Roller" witch is ignorant, I haven't changed one bit but I am at peace with myself. I wonder why people are so "afraid" or "prejudge" loyal christians

Probably because they judge from the political figures of the religious right....such as Jerry Falwell....who does say alot of things which is assinine. I think most people in churches really don't care what anyone else does....they just want the freedom to believe what they want to believe. I don't think the church is attacking society....I think it's the other way around. But again....we always have the big mouths out there who make the rest of the church look mean and judgemental.

The reason I was wondering is that I applied to be added to a religious directory on the web (one of the most prestigious) and never heard a word back from them. I also applied for reciprocal links with a few religious sites but never got any responses.
You may think this is normal, or perhaps an oversight, but I can tell you, until that point, I had never been refused a directory listing or link exchange, nor have I since.
I just found it odd.
