Re: Plastic Surgery
Confidence is a good thing, but does not make you immune to bad things happening. Even moreso when you grow overconfident.
It is not easy to shrug something off - it takes time and a real effort to do so.

Re: Plastic Surgery
In some ways it is - it makes you a bit ill-adjusted for the world as it is. It also is a sign of a good heart.

I used to as well, GG! It takes a LOT of work to change that about oneself! I still do at times...but I throw in some different thoughts into my head, thoughts that just make me feel better. I practised and practised and now it comes naturally; sometimes in seconds. I find Meditation helps as well! Fifteen minutes after a Meditation and I feel renewed.
Now I'm just a crusty broad and I LOVE it!

Re: Plastic Surgery
You need to think positive about yourself GG. If you think positive about yourself all the time, you begin to project a positive self image towards other people. Honestly, if you think bad about yourself all the time, if you think that you are not good enough, etc, then you begin to project a negative self image. How can you possibly hope to have a high level of self confidence when the most important person of all (YOU) thinks there is nothing good about you (not saying you think there is nothing good about you, but you know what I mean - I hope).
It all starts with you, think positive about yourself. Reinforce that every day. Do that and I can guarantee you will start to have a higher level of self confidence!
For example, and this might sound kind of shallow, but every day I look in the mirror and think "damn, I'm sexy" or "I'm one of the nicest people in the world, who wouldn't want me?" but in all honesty it really does work.
As for shrugging off the negatives. Why do you care what other people think so bad? Seriously? Why would you even need to be around those negative people in the first place. Who cares what other people think if it's negative? You don't need that crap in your life.

Re: Plastic Surgery
I also think your low self confidence stems from your last relationship you were in. 3 years of straight abuse will generally ruin someones self image. I believe that even though you are in a long distance relationship, he seems like a generally good guy for you, even though he doesn't like me haha. I think with this relationship, you will begin to see a change in yourself for the positive.
I'll tell you something else, I've been cheated on more times than I can count but does that bring me down? Nope. I don't think anything negative about it like it must be me or something. There are plenty of fish in the sea and a few bad fishes aren't going to spoil it for me. It's funny, I was talking with my friend Jill that I used to date years ago a few nights ago and I just made a joke that I kind of expect girls to cheat now. I really don't, but it was just kind of funny at the moment. She told me that if she didn't live so far away she would definately go back out with me because I was the best boyfriend she ever had. Made me feel pretty good about myself.

Re: Plastic Surgery
The other thing about confidence is that it isnt an all or nothing kind of thing. You can have some confidence and let it build up over time. It can also be situational. Like for me i have little confidence with girls, but at work, i am really good at my job and i know it and everybody else can feel the positive energy.

Re: Plastic Surgery
i would never consider it even though, like you TKD, i would like a breast reduction too but could never ever spend that kind of money on something like that. or go through the surgery.
a good example of too much plastic surgery is michael jackson.

Are you sure it is not the other way around?

No, there is another lady that has had so many plastic surgeries, I'm thinking.
Aha, found her right on this link and scroll down:

Re: Plastic Surgery
I think it would be easier to reconstruct a cat's face into her face, than the way she has gone to get a cat's face.
