I truly believe that statement! It's not thinking that one can just help when one doesn't really understand what a person suffering from depression goes through, but one can always offer their time by listening, supporting and giving loads of Love!

ive heard many people say "its all in your head" including my parents, who dont believe that depression is real.

as a sufferer the lack of support or acceptance of those closest to me can be difficult to deal with. it was a huge relief when my doctor looked me in the eyes and said "its real, depression is just as much of an illness as the flu, but the main medication is time, support and love"

he also went on to say "illnesses like chicken pox you can see on the outside, but depression is on the inside, and people struggle to believe in things they cant see for themselves. but that does not mean its not there. never let anyone tell you its in your head, because by rejecting the truth you can only get worse"

I have a girlfriend who has been told that for SO many, many years!
