Obesity ups demential risk
from Irishhealth:
Middle aged people who are obese are at an increased risk of developing dementia later in life; results from a major new study.
Over 10,000 people were involved in the study which took place over a 27-year period.
The participants underwent detailed health checks from 1964-1973. They were all aged 40-44; then they were followed up in the 1990's. Information gathered included medical history, medical conditions and body mass index. During the follow-up, researchers found that 713 (7%) had been diagnosed with dementia. They also found obese people -those with BMI of 30 or more- were 74% more likely to have dementia compared with those of a healthy weight. Overall, the risk appeared greater among women. Obese women were 200% more likely to have dementia than those of a healthy weight.
The study added that while an increase in dementia cases is already expected, due to the fact that people now live longer; failure to contain the present epidemic of obesity may lead to an even greater number of cases.

Vautrin, I just have to ask...I can't help myself...did you mean Fascinating!!!!!! in a great, interesting article sort of way.....or just fascinating in a bland way....
The reason I'm asking is because I take my News Reporter title to heart, and I want you people to get totally excited over the articles....otherwise what's the use??

It was a great article Luba. But somehow I could not write something sensible about it, so I wrote a reminder of some sorts. A lot of women in my family do suffer from obesity. I was thinking of them, and as a result could not post something.
I meant it in a positive way, Luba.

I know you did, Vautrin! I was just trying to get more info...if there's not a dozen exclamation points behind a word, I don't know what a person means exactly... If you've noticed just about everything I post has loads of exclamation points behind phrases or bold or color or capital letters...I type the way I talk full of emotion...
I hope you didn't take it as a complaint on my part, because I sure didn't mean it that way....see what I mean with the bold this time???

I know. Sometimes it is very hard what a person means with a reply. Even moreso when it is about interest levels, and things like irony, sarcasm, and all that can be read into a remark.
Should have thought of that.

You know what's harder, Vautrin? I think when one only meets a person online and can't see the facial expressions or see the twinkle in the eye when a person is being witty...it's just harder to know what they really mean...that's why I asked...I'm often accused of being nosy or wondering exactly what a person means....I hate to second guess, I just ask point-blank. I hope I didn't hurt you in any way because I would hate that!

Nah. Remember, my gf and I depend a lot on the internet right now. And sometimes we get into awkward situations because we can't see each other's faces.
Such things are bound to happen once in a while. Besides people need to be quite nosy with me, else they won't learn a thing about me .

Luba, you have been on the site for about 11 months. What do you know, factually, of me?
