Living la vita veggie
As many of you know- I have officially gone veggie - my BF has gone to organic chx only and is working toward veggie
Just thought I'd tell you some of the benefits I've had (so far 9 days total veg)
1- lost 6 lbs the first wk- prob water but you can't beat that
2- my skin is better than it has been since I was like 4
3- energy energy energy- and I'm sleeping better at nt too
4- guilt free snacks- i can munch away and not get that "man I ate too much-what was i thinking" feeling
5- somewhere- a cow is roaming free b/c of me- i like that feeling

I am going vegi after I have the baby, I am afraid to change my diet now, don't want the baby to be cooked wrong :P
I have switched to that Silk soy milk witch I find very good.
And blue corn chips, granola ect.
I never ate pork because I used to have a pet pig... so that was never an issue.
However I can go without red meat I don't think I can go without seafood.. It's to yummy plus I am a sushi junkie

wine and microbrews have always been my drink of choice so that's not a prob- just gotta remember no beefmato juice in my bloody marys LOL
I'm not saying i'll never eat meat again- i'm just giving this a try for now
I'm a coast gal too so I'm sure i'll have seafood from time to time- venison and natural game will be OK on occassion- I just can't get behind the idea of "raised for slaughter" anymore ya know?
This has actually been MUCH easier than I thought it would be- I had apprehencians of being on a steady diet of salad or pasta- far from it
today I have soy "meatballs" w/ a sweet red sauce and rice for lunch mmm mmm good- I had 1/2 an ugly fruit for breakfast w / chocolate Silk (that stuff is yummy Heather) and tonight we will have salad and pasta (organic tomato and mushroom sauce) for snack- frechetta bread w/oil and spices for dipping

WTF is ugly fruit?? I was wondering if you we're supplementing any of your meat with protein shakes? I've tried that before but it doesn't work well for me, the shakes have the same calories as food so I still feel like I didn't eat, than ate agian
I am looking in to the water thing more, because my doc also told me to drink 8 glass of water a day 1 glass of milk and oj once or twice a week.. I have been suplementing my water with Crystal Light for taste.

Yeah, I'd like to know what an ugly fruit is?!?
I'm happy that you're doing so well being on the veggie lifestyle now. Being a vegetarian is not for me though. I don't like anything that's soy so veggie burgers and things like that, I think are gross. I did try all that before since I put my husband on a no meat diet after we found out about the Hep C. He ate it all but hated it. We like our meat and potatoes too much. I couldn't imagine not eating eggs, meat, fish, cheese, butter... not for me at all.

I'm veggie not vegan so I still eat dairy- I love cheese too LOL I also eat egg whites on occasion
ugly fruit is a type of fruit- tastes like a tart orange
no protein shakes- I eat nuts, soy, beans, whole grains- they all have protein and tofu which is usually supplemented w/protein
I may have to look into a B12 supplement- that is the only nutrient that is only found in animal products- I'm not sure if I'm getting enough from the dairy I do consume
fun list

You are probably feeling better from the water and the B-12 which really boosts your energy levels.
I'd rather eat meat and feel crappy. I really love my burgers and steak.

Faye: Go on LS this minute and search for Papillon's thread when he decided to became a vegetarian (on Personal Improvement I think). Lots of people told him what to watch and what to eat.
I was vegetarian for one year, but I ruined my stomach.
HEre are the downsides of it in my case:
- I was seriosly lacking calcium, magnesium
- I had aenimia - something about the proteins in the meat that were lacking from my diet (wasn't eating soy or taking vitamins)
- I sometimes felt dizzy
The thing is, even if you do watch EVERY DAY FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE what you eat, there are proteins in red meat that cannot be replaced since you can only find them in meat.
That being said, I totally congratulate you. I almost became a vegetarian today myself: I was eating my turkey and tomatoe sandwich on my way to the subway when I saw this beautiful big DEAD bird, with its feet up in the air. I felt like vomiting!!!! MAybe "corporations" are making us eat that too and we don't know it. Yuuukkkkkkk !!!!!

have you ever been on PETA's website? I take a lot of their info w/a grain of salt but some of the crap restaurants do is AWFUL!
I have another thread about a book that talks about the additives in meat-
ever notice everyone saying "girls didn't look like that when I was in school" and kids ARE developing young these days
What if that is a side effect of eating meat injected w/steroids? And obesity?
Did you know some foods have additives to make you HUNGRY!!!
pizza place in CA once got shut down for baking weed into their pizza- before they were caught it made a vicious cycle that def upped business (munchies, high, munchies high) Well there are legal ways of doing that to food in the supermarket!

that is one of the reasons that i miss having our farm where we could raise our own animals for meat and know what they were fed. We have a butcher shop here around the corner that sells meat that's free of all the chemicals. I buy there.
They really do sell food to that makes you hungry? That's sick! I wonder what it is they put in there that would do that. Unbelievable!

makes sense doesn't it?
how many times have you been unable to read a bunch of ingrediants in a food? what are those things? color- preservatives- do they really need like 10 items to do that? what are those other unpronouncables up to?

i know what you mean though about reading the ingredients. first of all, it's so small that you need a magnafying glass to be able to read them and most of those words are unreadable and what do they mean anyhow? something that makes you go hmmmm

Well good luck with your new diet Faye, make sure to see the doctor fairly regularily for the first while just so your sure that your not neglecting your body of anything.
I've never considered being a vegetarian simply because I love a good steak now and then.
