Laparoscopy

i'll give some more details as why a little later (im drugged up on Diazepam atm)

Bottom line is i have to have Laparoscopy. i just curious does anyone know or had this done? or know anyone who has? Ive read some leaflets and such on it, and i know more or less what it involves. but i suffer from Aichmophobia/belonephobia and mainly Nosocomephobia these are basically fear of needles and fear of hospitals - hence the large amounts of diazepam ive taken today.

so with this major problem going into hospital for more then just an examination and scans has me kinda freaked out. so any help/info would be much appriciated

or even just a hug

I am sending you a hug as well. I have not had laparscopy before but have had 4 major surgeries. The lap should be much better than surgery!

My EX had one when I was with her. I did not watch the procedure at all. I must say though, she recovered from it very quickly and it didn't take long at all. I'm sure you've read all the details and you know what it involves so I wont go on about that.

It really is routine though try not to worry yourself to tears.

BTW I hate needles as well - I'm a big chicken =P

i wish i was just frightened of them, but last time they tried to put me in hospital they didnt sedate me well enough and i jumped out a 3rd floor window and ran infront of a car.

the history behind why i have to have laparoscopic surgery is because ive had abdominal pains for about a year, at first mild and they came and went. now its anything but mild and its constant. They've given a few ideas as to what it could be, tested and cleared for stds, so they are looking at maybe an unknown miscarriage, infection or maybe cancer (its hereditary in my family on both mum and dads side)

so after a few scans and internal examinations, they decided to do laparoscopic surgery to have a proper look...if i go.

I can relate, GG. I can't stand hospitals either. Luckily my fear of needles is not that bad.

My dad has been so often, that he does not even want to be under full narcosis: he'd rather see the operation and the doctors, if possible.

But you better go. If the problem is minor, it may save you from having to undergo major surgery.

i think your dad is a brave man! id only end up trying to fight them if they kept me awake.

and i know i *should* go. i do, i know its for the best etc, major surgery isnt something i want to end up having but tbh nor is this. its so difficult

For me it helps to think of the consequences of not going. Doctors should be trained to deal with patients who are fearful for operations, hopsitals et cetera. It is quite a common fear.

As for the anaesthetic, a good doctor / nurse will anaestethise you, without you noticing it.

lol um no i notice alright, i notice enough to jump out a 3rd floor window. They know now to use gas to knock me out, but i dunno its still a very disturbing and terrifying experience for me. i end up destroying myself for weeks and months after :/

GG and I have been fighting about this for months, I want her to go, she wants me to ignore it. We finally came to the comprimise that we'd go together and if she started to panic we'd leave, but we won't give up. Ignoring her health problems isn't an option.

Okay, GG, here's a trick I've learned! I absolutely hate Pap Smears and am SO nervous! What I've done THIS time when I had to go is play in my mind some comedic roles. You have a GREAT sense of humour so I wouldn't be surprised if this worked for you. The more nervous you are but you do need to go, the more you have to play with your mind.

For instance, picture the doctor with a big, bulbous red nose, or one of those tooting horns, or anything that strikes your imagination that's very funny. Even before you have to go for your appointment, rent some hilarious movies for a week and replay the funny parts in your mind. Comedy absolutely works, trust me. If you like to read, take a funny book with you while your in the waiting room. Also Meditation helps, repeating some Mantra that works for you, will keep your mind off your fears. I've tried all these and they do work, providing you don't fall on the floor laughing your head off while the doctor is examining you, he might not take kindly to that!
