Default Iron Iron Iron

I need more iron in my diet. Lots more. My doctor making a big deal out of it lots more heh heh.

I cannot afford to buy red meat very often.

So what other options do I have? I have this list that says a few options, but its not specific, like it says seafood, but that makes me wonder is it all seafood? Is the Tuna I eat going to have iron in it?

I'm even munching on sunflower seeds at the moment as they have iron in them.

I would really appreciate any suggestions.

why is it that everything that gives me iron is so expensive?? It's cheaper just to buy the pills - which I have to use atm to get my levels back up, but it isn't really a recommended long term solution.

That list missed of peas! Peas have tons of iron in them. So does spinach. When I used to do allot of weights and needed more iron i'd put peas and spinach is almost everything. Dicing spinach up and putting it in bolognaise or similar sauces adds to the flavour too.

Quite allot of the stuff on that list is cheap, ignore the expensive red meats and luxury goods like figs, stuff like whitebait, sardines and canned fish like that are extremely cheap to buy. They do contain quite allot of oil though so you can over do them. Tasty on toast though.

Lentis are extremely cheap and very good for your too. the only problem with them is you have to use them as a ingredient rather than a food you can just eat. Same with soya beans but you can do allot of stuff with them. The list of soya goods out there is endless.

Remember with any iron rich vegetable, steam them rather than boil to get the most out of them.

Fortunately for me I love spinach so having it in salad is not an issue at all. Same goes for sardines but I don't eat them too much because they are oily as you stated.

Sardines packed in mustard, they don't taste as oily and are awesome on saltines. You gotta like mustard though.

Cook yur food in a cast iron pan...

1 ounce of red meat tossed into yur daily meals will help as well. Red meats might be expensive but there is nothing stating that you absolutely have to eat a 1/4 pounder every day.

Some facts you may want acquaint yourself with before you decide what to diet on. High Iron Diet for Iron Deficiency Anemia and Dietary Supplement Fact Sheet: Iron

There are foods that inhibit the absorption of iron - spinach is one of them.

When eating sardines, do you eat the bones, too? I find that the only nauseating thing about sardines is picking out the bones, and I don't dare crunch any. What's a person to do?
