Hubby goes for surgery on the 19th
after waiting a year, he's finally going in for his surgery. he went for his pre-op today and it's worse then everyone thought it was.
he needs a shoulder joint replacement but, his bone has so many hole in it that they can't replace all that with his own bone from his hip so, they're going to use a dead person's bones to do that with. we're a little freaked out about that. 8O
the surgery will take anywhere between 4 to 6 hours, they're going to remove his arm to do this. 8O and he'll be in the hospital anywhere from 3 days to a week and if he gets an infection, it could be a month.
he could be in the hospital for christmas. oh well, at least it's finally getting done, he can recover (which will take anywhere between 3 to 5 months) and get back to work. I'm off for 2 weeks from the 18th so at least i'll be home to take care of him.
you know, waiting a year for surgery that's supposed to be urgent is disgusting.

That is terrible. Hope the surgery itself turns out okay.

OMG, that sounds so serious! You and your husband will be in my prayers! How is he dealing with all this? How are you holding up, Star?

Re:
he's very nervous but we keep thinking that once this is all over, the pain will end and our lives can get back to normal again. he can't wait to get back to work. a year's a long time!

A year is a very long time. Probably the waiting time was so long, because it was not life-threatening :?. A sad state of affairs.

Re:
he did yesterday and it well better then they thought it would. didn't take as long and he's recovering nicely but in a lot of pain. He's got a few months of recovery before he can actually go back to work though. it's been a year so what's another few months. he should be coming home between friday and sunday. then i have to nurse him like the big baby that he is whenever he gets surgery or sick. you know how men are!

Glad to here things went well.

Re:
i was very worried and so was he but everything went better then planned. they didn't have to take any bone from his hip. theyused a donar instead. he needed too much bone to reconstruct his shoulder.
he's still in a lot of pain but doing very well. i'm impressed on how fast he's healing.
thanks you guys for all your thoughts and prayers.

Great to hear that the surgery seems to have worked out fine. Hopefully his recovery will be a swift one.
