How Many Sick Days Do You Have a Year
Approximately? Do you think when you are under Stress, you get sick more often? How do you combat colds, flu, Viruses, etc.? Does your Work Environment contribute to your illness? If you get paid for Sick Days at Work, how many?

Re: How Many Sick Days Do You Have a Year
When I still worked I had like two sickdays in the last 5 years. Till I got my burn-out, but that was right before my last contract ended. Having a cold or the flu wasn't something I would call in sick for. My working environment contributed to me getting a burnout, although it was more the fact that I worked an average of 85 hours a week for 5 years leading up to it. Here if you get sick your boss has to keep paying you 70% for up to 2 years or untill your contract runs out. There's strict conditions for it though. Staying home for a regular cold will lose you your sickpay and might get you fired. There has to be a real medical condition and within 3 days you'll have a doctor at your doorstep. You'll also have to be at home during all workinghours, unless you need to visit a doctor at that time or are in hospital.

Re: How Many Sick Days Do You Have a Year
more then i can count in the last 12 months.
was off for an operation. then off for 3 weeks in hospital a month later seriously ill - i got a verbal warning for this from my boss.
and then had a nervous breakdown and was off for a week a month later. i cut my hours down at work.
and now im off for another 2 or 3 weeks because i had 2 nervous break downs in 7 days and contemplated suicide.
so my doctor has signed me off, and is changing my medication. im going to be dropping more hours as well. infact im going to go from doing 36.5 hours a week to 4.
on a second note tho, ive got a second job starting soon. one i'll enjoy (will explain in seperate post) so hopefully that and the new medication will stop me breaking down and being off!

Re: How Many Sick Days Do You Have a Year
My company gives us 10 days a year of personal time off. This is for sick leave and vacation combined. The longer you work there the more days you get off. I don't take too much time off sick or not.

Re: How Many Sick Days Do You Have a Year
My bosses don't care how many days I'm off as long as I meet the quote, however due to the fact that I have a quote to meet a sick day is a distant memory.

Re: How Many Sick Days Do You Have a Year
At my last job I was having a lot of days off for stress reasons. I have IBS and the stress I was under was causing symptoms to flare up so I just couldn't get by many day shifts without going home sick.
If I had ever actually been allowe dsome vacation time in 16 months, that may have prevente dthat. I quit my job when on a Saturday I had one abusive caller too many. I packed up my things, walked over to my team leader and said, "I quit."
Walked out that door and have never felt better in my life (in the physical regards).

That takes a LOT of courage and I SO admire you for that!! We have so many people in the wonderful Company I work for that complain so much, but yet won't do anything about it; makes for such a overwhelmingly negative environment. If negativity equaled smoke, there would be huge thick clouds billowing about. It's very sad, because it's a GREAT Company!

As I've said elsewhere, I have no problem doing what is best for me.
I htink it's sad and stupid when people stay at a place where they are so unhappy. It's not good for the working environment.

Re: How Many Sick Days Do You Have a Year
Just recently they implemented the "personal day" thing. Prior to that if you were sick, you would just call in. If you were sick for 3 days in a row you needed a doctors note.
Now with the personal days, you get 6 a year. That is for if you are sick, have appointments, etc. The good thing is that if you don't use all 6 by the end of the year, they get added to your vacation days the next year. The reason they implemented personal days is because there were some people that were abusing the system, calling in sick 2-3 times a month. This isn't set in stone though, one of our account officers has cancer and is going through treatment right now, he's in pretty rough shape - but he doesn't have to worry about money or working - our company is paying for everything, on top of his salary.
I don't mind, I never get sick, and I can always use more vacation time. That's another thing about my work, instead of getting paid for over time, I just bank it. What's an extra $30 before taxes for an hour of work? I'll just save it up and take a full day down the road.
