The only downside is, that major pharmaceutical compies try to patent the substances that makes the spices work. Making it illegal (!) for people who have used these "traditional" medicine for thousands of years, to continue to use them. :x

Seriously, there are plenty of medicinal uses for spices. Sadly Western Medicine does not pay sufficient attention to it. And in South-Africa, traditional medicine is being researched as a possible cure for illnesses like cancer and AIDS. Which will more likely than not be a complete waste of money.

I just remembered, after the sexual assault thread, that it is a wide-spread belief in parts of the world, that having sex with a baby purifies one's own blood, and thus cures AIDS.
