I'm really quite convinced about global warming. I've read the science behind it but more importantly I've seen it in two very different parts of the world.
When I was a kid we used to get Winter in the south of the UK. Now we don't we get more rain. It used to snow 2 or 3 feet regularly over the last couple of winter months 20 years ago. Now, we get rain and have done for the last 10 years if not more.
I also got to see a global warming project in person when I went to the Himalayas. They showed us statistics and pictures of the glaciers on the mountains over the years and then when we saw them they had shrunk, some of them by kilometers up into the highest peaks. Then you see the flooding in the valleys and plains below the mountians where they can't handle the ever increasing water as it all melts away.
Its happening and what makes me sad is people in denial.

Thats a huge generalisation but its not just about the car you drive, its about what products you buy and use and how those products are made. Its shocking just how many products you can buy that are by products of the oil industry. Personally I know a couple of environmentalists who work for the local council and they don't drive at all.

Do you own a car or use public transport? Do you strive to buy products which have either recycled or sustainable packaging? Do you buy as much locally produced products as you can? Do you make sure the products you buy that are not locally sourced are from a sustainable and enviromentally sound source? Do you recycle all your plastic, aluminium, paper/cardboard and glass? Are all your light bulbs energy savers? Do you only turn on lights in rooms your in? Do you turn off all appliances when they are not in use (putting them on standby still uses energy)? Do you avoid using heating in your house? Is your house insulated? Are all your windows double glazed? Do you avoid by products of the oil industry? Do you use as little water as possible?
Think again about how bit your carbon foot print is and how much rubbish your creating. If your doing all that stuff then great, your doing your bit but from the sound of it I doubt you are. The problem people think there doing there bit but actually are not at all.

Yes, it is a modern thing. Even 300 years ago the human population was a fraction of what it is now and before the industrial revolution there was very little actual pollution on the size and scale that would harm the atmosphere. Coal and oil burning power stations and factories didn't exsist until 300 years ago. All industrialisation prior to that was extremely small scale hence the industrial revolution.
It wasn't until recently the dangers of CFC's were discovered and subsequently banned which is what caused the current hole in the ozone layer which is a different problem to what C02 is causing.
It wasn't until in the 1800's that large scale industrial complexes were setup. The US was hardly even populated 300 years ago and now with China is the worlds no.1 polluter. This has all come about very very recently. It wasn't until the 1920's that the US ramped up its industrial power to what it is today.
It wasn't until 40 or so years ago that the car became available to all and sundry and they pump out tons of C02 and until recently lead into the atmosphere.
Its all bad and more needs to be done to combat it. Being in denial is just screwing up your childrens and the generations that will inherit the earths future.
