Codependence or altruism
I "help" people-I get judged a lot by selfish pigs who have a "religious" belief that you have to be a selfish pig to be worthy of survival.
I'm not perfect, maybe there is some codependent subroutine there-probably-but I dont have a girlfriend, sometimes it hlps me feel connected to do things for people.
it's not an ego thing-it's partly a control thing-I've seen people get away with monstrous things in my life-if I can help smeone,it redeems the ugliness around me.
I just want to put an angry howl against the stupid clods who believe in that me first crap.

Not necessarily,I can be very tenaciously self centered.
I believe in God and I beleive the good I do is rewarded with the good things that happen to me.
I'm lucky to have something to share.

Sadly people like this are too common these days. It almost feels as if all the good in the world is being sucked away by some unseen force.

I'm not so sure about that. In general (at least here in the big city), it seems as if people are getting colder and more distant. People anger easier as well and patience seems to be at an all time low.
It's funny because here we are approaching Christmas but you never really seem to feel the Christmas Spirit, just commercialism and traffic.
Maybe I'm just becoming a cynic.

I agree. Christmas just doesn't seem like Christmas anymore. Nobody cares or is afraid to smile and tell you "Merry Christmas". It's like they're afraid to offend so they say nothing.
I personally feel like humanity as a whole is on a downward spiral.

Geez,guys-look at the signs...
Things have been going down for a long time but for a while noone even complained about it-now people are drawing attention to it at least...
everyone for a long time was making apologies for that "me first" philosophy, now even the Republicans are talking about charity...
It just takes a long time to right these things...

I've seen the signs of this over the years but really refused to let it invade my personal space. I like to laf so if someone doesn't want to laf with me then they can frown alone.
I also wonder if much of the insight I believe I've noticed in human nature is a reflection of the person I'm becoming. It may not be that humanity is suffering from malaise, it may just be that my age group is. Maybe as we age we take things more seriously and have less time for goofing off. If thats the case then its a very sad state of affairs.

Society rejects and squashes the elements that are different.
Sure, we live in a very commercial society and big companies don't care about the costumer as an individual, but abour the consumers as a whole, as a surce of profits.
Guess what? We made it happen. If it's out there staring at us, it's because we've created it and because it's being needed. Don't like the commercial approach? Go and buy everything from the independant drugstore or markets. Are you doing it?
Because, if everyone agrees that multinational are heartless, most of us are more than glad to be buying the products we need from bigger, cheaper, huge chains of distribution.
Feel like Christmas is getting too "commercial"? Well, we're only getting what we've seeded. And honestely, we'll always find sumething to complain about, but we're all too happy to take advantage of winter promotions.
I don't like the system very much, but I'm not that disgusted with it either.

i shop at a coop-but i have a little more discretionary cabbage to play with.
It's more than the multi national thing-society was becoming more and more depersonalized long before that was even an issue-the multi national thing is a symptom not a cause-for a language student it's a blessing-i was of little consequence before we had all those noone else can talk to...

I kinda went thru the same train of thought this year Hezikiah and found myself deeply disappointed in that many people out there are so cold and mean. I guess it all comes down to this....the only person you have to answer for is YOU.
Sure, sometimes I'm a bleeding heart and believe the best in everyone...but I would prefer being taken advantage of than to have to face the world each day with a wall of defense.
Think about this too....for the 9 out of 10 people who were jerks....what about the 1 out of that 10 who you make their day?? Bump the rest.

Like I posted elsewhere....I too went thru a time where I thought GOOD GAWD....humanity sucks. It was so depressing....I didn't even want to talk to ANYONE. Truth is though....there are people like the members on here who somehow make it better. It's like a bandaid over your heart.
Just when I thought no one gave a rat's A$$ about anyone....Luba calls me to say she cares. We've never met or had a personal conversation.....but it proved me to that not all people are butts. You just gotta find the decent ones in the crowd.
