X-tra Taxes
I just heard on the news where they are seriously discussing if areas prone to be flooded or hit with a hurricane should be 'taxed extra' because they are a burden on the rest of the country. WTF? Like there isn't earthquakes and blizzards elsewhere? What about a Mt Saint Helen? What about 9/11? You can't tax someone for something unpredictable.
It sounds like it makes sense....but it really doesn't. Or am I wrong?

From a business point of view, it makes sense.
Anything other than a business point of view...not fair at all...

It comes from Insurance companies such as AllState holding 21% of the policies in that area. I understand these companies are nervous and the CEO's may not make $11 million salary for a couple of years.
BUT...does that mean only the well to do would be able to afford to live in those areas? Who's going to work the McDonalds, clean the toilettes and ring up the groceries?
I agree that it sounds like good business....but I'm not sure it would be in the long run. Then again....I could be one sided on this since I live in a trailor park on the beach. HAHAHA! I only pay $42 a month for homeowners.....but since we are surrounded by water on an inlet....we can't get flood insurance.

I don't think taxing extra is fair but I do think that insurance premiums should prolly be a bit higher if you live in tornado alley.

That would be Texas/Oklahoma/Kansas area. We are the HURRICANE area....or as Stone calls it 'the Storm Hole'. LOL!
I do see the reasoning behind the discussed new tax though. The whole country will have increased insurance premiums because of all the crap we've been thru down here the past couple of years. Oddly enough, I grew up here and can only remember a handful of really bad hurricanes. I have no idea what it going on lately.
I know that island out near Africa had a couple of earthquakes. If the side with the fault...fell into the ocean...we would be talking a major title wave here. That's being heavily discussed as well. People are nervous about it because everything has been going so bad lately weather wise.

That's why you need to move to Arizona. Great weather, no humidity, no natural disasters, year round golfing and great mountain scenery. I'm moving back when I get dual citizenship.

Wait, you lived there, aren't there now, plan on moving back and you don't have dual citizenship, how does that work?

Lots of rich family down there. I worked for them. No taxes, no worries. But I was stuck working for them - I don't want to do that again.

I LOVE Arizona. I would live there in a heartbeat. I was engaged to someone who was stationed in the Sierra Vista area (outside of Tucson). It was beautiful, the weather was great and I like the yards with the rocks instead of grass. NO MOWING! I like the pueblo style houses as well.
