As per Meanon's post, I find as I 'mature' I'm not as sentimental about gifts anymore, especially when I have to dust the stuff! I look at it and if I don't remember who gave it to me and it's now a dust collector..out it goes! I tell my friends "no more gifts, please; I'd rather get together for a coffee or lunch and have some great laughs". I've convinced all of them except for one....

I threw loads out and gave away 18 bags/boxes to charity - two were full of ornaments. The things I kept were things like letters from my first love, scan photos of the girls taken when I was pregnant, their first cards made for me at nursery ... priceless!
I know what you mean though. I will always spend on an experience with friends over a material possession any day. They are the things that give life meaning. That's why I was surprised I was so happy to get all my old stuff back. I think it's because I had to leave it in the first place. I didn't need it, but having it back somehow helps make the manner of my leaving (which was in a huge rush) more acceptable to me.

Is it also like having yourself back totally?

Yes it is a bit like that, I liked having all my "memories" (as my daughter called them) back with me and being able to show them to the girls. But it's mainly that I sometimes give myself a hard time for getting myself in that position in the first place. Somehow having reached a point where I can do it in a civilised way makes me feel better about it all

I was thinking the same thing. Sort of sounds like you're "Whole" or more so now that you have these items.

Yes - I've put my finger on it now. It's the being able to have them, rather than the things themself that I've appreciated. I could have got them ages ago, but I put difficult things off.
Speaking of which....assignments are due in again

For some reason I am having a difficult time to get in the Work mode this morning after a great week's holiday...must be because of all the changes my friend told me about....
