Default New Year's Day Dinner

Do you have any particular traditions as far as your New Year's Day dinner?

I know a lot of people in the US (possibly only in the south) always eat black-eyed peas for good luck. I don't know what they do elsewhere.

I don't plan on doing any peas.....at best I'll propably fry up some chichen legs and mix it with whatever else I have handy.

I just had about 6 cans of black-eyed peas given to me. I've never had them in my life. I opened up a can today thinking I'd put it into a turkey stew that I'm making for supper and just about got sick to my stomach. They look gross! EWWWE! needless to say they didn't make it to the pot. gross!

Well, our traditional canadian french dinner might sound to all of you like black-eyed peas do to me so here goes.

We have a pig's feet stew with meatballs wrapped in pie dough, there's chicken, turkey and beef in this stew also. It's soooooo yummy!!! We're not having that this year because my family isn't getting together for new years day. My dad is usually the one who makes the dinner. So this year, we're just going to have whatever there is in the freezer. I'll probably just make a pasta sauce and have that.

I love any kind of fresh peas......white acre peas being my favorite....but I would imagine if you lived somewhere where you couldn't get them fresh....they could be gross.

The dried version of black eyed peas are good if you follow the directions and have some ham bone or flavoring to cook them in. I can't even fathom a canned version....ewww.

I'll have to figure out a way to mail you some good stuff Star. Since you like seafood....I should be able to dry ice some to you. You probably pay triple the price than I have to since this is a seafood catching area. I have a friend who's family does shrimping and he sells them to me at $2.99 a pound for larger ones.

seafood is very expensive here. it's cheaper on the west or east coast where it's more accessable. We only have seafood as a treat because it is very costly. In the summertime, there are people who come from the east coast (new brunswick) with trucks full of seafood. that sells for a very good price and we usually buy lots then.

We had our traditional New Year's dinner today (don't laugh)...black-eyed peas, home cooked with ham in them; potatoes fried with onions; and homemade cornbread. Yum yum!

That DOES sound yummy, Star. I'd love to have some about now. I do not want to eat leftover black-eyed peas.

We had pizza the other night and have chicken left over from last night. I think we're both sick of eating though.
