my parents had a rule that the kids couldnt get a cell phone until they were 18, my brother who is 16 went out and got a prepaid cell phone, and then got caught by my parents, cause he kept the receipt. So my parents punished him by forcing him to pay for the phone and he is not allowed to use the home phone, so his bill will be really high.

Good for your parents. I am glad they followed through. I am one that isn't too good about that and I applaud any parent who sticks to their guns no matter what.

my parents are really good with discipline, they have creative and effective punishments, i never liked being punished. So it will teach my brother a good lesson.

It sure will. I believe it is rather educative, even at 16 to give this type of lessons. It do your little brother good .

Erm....I don't get it. Didn't he pay for the phone when he bought it?

Am I correct in saying that they've BANNED him from the Free home Phone, and have basically said: "hey you got your own phone, now you gotta pay for the minutes and use only it."

Actually, I agree with your parents: Really Why should <18 yo need a cell phone? I'm not even completely convinced I need a cell phone. In fact, I'm relatively sure that having a cell phone has made me LESS happy than I was before I had one, and until someone calls me to say I've won the lottery, and have only 24 hours to claim $1,000,000.00, I'll continue to believe this.

I would not survive dull meetings, waiting rooms, childrens parties and the park without my mobile. I also need it to get directions when I'm lost and to tell people I am late.

Even though she's a very young for it, I gave my old phone (battery only functions enough for messages) to my daughter when she was 7 so that she could stay in touch when she is with her Dad. There was a time when I had tragic texts when I wondered if it was wise, but now it seems to help her a lot when she misses me.

He will have to pay for the minutes and the texts. So yeah thats correct.
